Selling cars is terrible car stuff. Friend in WI sent me this screenshot of what he sent to someone. He is selling an old Rav4 with a butt ton of miles with a 4cyl/4AT. He said he was getting tired of this person because they kept getting weird when they asked him about mileage and he said "I get about 21-23MPG" and they were like "Well it should be getting like 25, what is wrong with it?" :what:

I am really not looking forward to listing my E36 M3 in the next week or so. The onslaught of terrible is coming.

The 2006–2011 RAV4 and 2010 Lexus HS250h have rear tie rods that can loosen, rust, and separate, leading to an “abrupt change in the vehicle’s alignment,” according to the original August 2012 recall of 780,584 cars. But filings show Toyota hadn’t grasped the root of the problem until now and its dealers weren’t yet properly trained to perform the repairs.

Eh, I guess so.

I work at a Toyota store. The whole "techs are at fault" thing is Toyota's angle to try and not have to buy back every rav on the road.

No one is installing them wrong, it's just a bad design and Toyota refuses to fix the part. They keep replacing the same part with basically the same part and expecting wheels to stop falling off.

Part of instructions for current campaign is you have to get someone else who is also certified to do the campaign to watch you torque everything down to spec and sign off on it. Presumably so they can say it's a conspiracy of crooked techs who want ravs to fall apart or something. Pretty cool.

Rav4s are having piston ring problems too, aren't they? A friend of ours is having hers replaced by Toyota despite having 150k miles on it. She said there was a waiting list of like two or three weeks to get it done due to all the others needing it, too.

Yeah whatever the code for that 4 cylinder motor is, it has that problem in every car they put it in.

Those ravs (the like 06-10 or whatever, I'm not a Toyota nerd, I work on used cars) also have trans problems. Like there's a TSB for replacing trans on them, but only covered while still under basic warranty. e: the TSB is basically "does the transmission make horrible noises above 30mph? replace it." They're all noisy but some of them are insane, even on relatively low mileage cars.

They're still good cars as far as Toyotas go.

I have a '94 C220 that's been very reliable but the mirror design on them is crappy and the giant rear end spring they put in them ends up breaking the plastic it's attached to. They used the same ones for the contemporary E-class, too. What's going wrong with hers?

Yeah the mirror covers are a real pain!! You might have one of the ones with the bad wiring harness. All of the carmakers have gone through a phase of using more eco-friendly wire insulation which have ended up crumbling apart.

Well, when Hummer and Toyota love each other very much....

EDIT: Co worker of mine has been spewing out a huge amount of hatred for the Toyotoa FT86 but lots of praise for the Subaru BRZ... It's the same loving car (except Toyota having an extra paint option, better warranty, and Subaru having the heated seats).

I'm guessing someone was using water in theirs and it froze and broke everything, and the dealership was like "give me all your money" so instead they got a can opener and took the one from this guy.

But it's like a $75 part!

On an unrelated note, searching for that part somehow led me to find out that you can get an F30 with a factory-installed lockable weapon box in the front door cards.

I liked the v6 ravs. The oil consumption motor is the 4 cylinder. I suspect the trans tsb wouldn't exist if a tow package with trailer wiring wasn't available as an option when you buy one of those things.

Last one I put a trans in was a 4cyl with trailer brake controls.
