The climax is the reveal the entire thing was a reality TV show based on the Danganronpa visual novel series. The cast was made up of criminals, suicidal people, and plain old fame seekers. They take the time to comment on how the people who participate, even as viewers, are terrible.

This. I wonder how it felt to work on that game, just purposely making GBS threads on everyone who plays it.

it's kind of a weird point to make imo, because everyone ive seen that was into dangan ronpa was kind of into it for the goofy characters making slapdash friendships, not for the parts where they murder each other

yeah, ishihama is good at working the staff credits into the visuals, and in nhk's case removing them really is a detriment because it creates these weird pauses as all you have to look at are shots meant to be set up as framing

Chapter 2's execution:

The maid chick runs away from a lynch mob and a spiked chain dangles down. She climbs it and gets cut up, as spikes tend to do to people. As she nears the top sawblades come out and she gets even more cut up and her clothes come off because of course they do and she falls off the rope in a broken pile of bones and gore.

I feel embarassed that I used to like this series.

Endorph posted:

to be clear I meant from the fanbase, not implying that the devs were angry or w/e.

I feel like Danganronpa 1 was made because the developers wanted to make it. They had a story and a game idea, and they made it because they wanted to share it, indie style. Then hey, it was popular! They had more to do so whatever, make a second game.

But as that happened the fact the fanbase pretty much is awful (the Japanese fanbase isn't really better than the Western part, unsurprisingly), the horrible schlock that popped up in the form of spinoff manga/light novels, and so on and so forth it ended up being "hey this game sells a lot, make a new one."

I mean, the executions, in the first game especially, were more goofy or implied than actively gory.

Also I watched a friend stream the game so maybe I missed some of the nuance but it feels like the whole 'goofy characters making slapdash friends' thing got cut for more room for things like the anthropologist guy's entire motivation being he wants to screw his sister. Not like, implied, he literally straight up says that.

It's also because they're presented as objects in the world in some shots, which make the animated shots a bit more dynamic, and in others they add to the composition, balancing the weight of the image.

If you can't beat it, the Cleric Beast seems like it has to be the first boss but you can actually do it later on; It doesn't block anything vital.
