I now get to take out a 65k loan for just an 18 month program for a masters. The ROI should be worth it though, hopefully.. I hear you. Would have cost me ~30 grand back when I started school, looking at going back now galls me.

Unfortunately, the one that shuts off is in the back seat... nice long trip for the dashcam power cord, but I can see why they chose the back one to turn on/off. The front one keeps my cell phone charger, which doesn't seem to do any appreciable drain overnight. Though for all I know the "constantly live" socket may turn off with everything else - if you leave the doors open, trunk open, or interior lights on, they turn off 15 minutes after the car is shut off. Not quite as bad as GM's "let's turn on EVERY EXTERIOR LIGHT INCLUDING THE HIGH BEAMS WHEN YOU UNLOCK THE CAR" approach on their newer vehicles, but at least GMs don't honk the horn unless you double press the lock button. Mine just flashes the turn signals for any keyfob press, it'll honk if I press lock twice instead of once (I assume just for an audible confirmation, the alarm is turned on either way), and the automatic headlights only stay on for ~30 seconds after I shut off the car (if I don't shut them off as I pull into my parking space - which I do if it's after about 9pm). On unibody cars, that's usually where there is an overlap at the front and rear of the horizontal "frame rail" where the sections that the subframes bolt to is welded in. Check your manual for the jacking/jack stand points for your car. I learned that Ford doesn't want me jacking the Crown Vic up by the center of the rear diff, for example. Unlike every other car with a live axle, ever. For my RX-7s and my wife's Kia, I generally put the jack stands under the suspension attachment points, or the subframe attachment points. Rhyno posted:He's SUPERman. That poo poo makes sense. How the hell does good at fighting lead to flying the gently caress around? alright trap sprung the idea is that to get good at fighting, you gotta have good control over your ki (the "power" they call it in English). Charge your ki and launch it out of your fist? that's a kamehameha. If your control gets good enough, you can essentially shoot ki out of your feet, turning you into basically a spirit-powered rocket.

The majority of people I know around the same age as me, just don't give a poo poo about cars. They either don't need one, because they live in a city with awesome public transport, or it's just an unavoidable annoyance to them. They have a ton of other things they would rather spend their time and money on. I know some people who are into cars, but it's a lot less common than with previous generations. I mostly continue driving my car simply because I love driving. It doesn't really make much logical sense, except it's very practical when I need to buy something I can't get from a shop that's nearby. But I could easily downsize to a 1.0L tiny commuter-hatch and still have that benefit, for a significant reduction in recurring costs. I hang to my large car with its old-fashioned larger than average (around here) engine, cushy suspension, leather seats, low gas mileage and typical 16 year old car issues and repair costs, because it makes me feel good to drive it. My GF dreams about owning an Audi R8. Then again, she's from southern Germany, so that may explain it. KozmoNaut fucked around with this message at 09:39 on Jan 15, 2017 |

Plus...... well even since I've had a license, being silly on the road kinda is a lot harder to get away with. 30 years ago if I was caught 45 over, I wouldnt be thrown into the back of a police car and my license suspended ont he spot, I could pull a burnout without my car being confiscated for 3 months at best, back roads were much more clear of traffic with less lane markings disallowing overtaking and being a hoon wasnt seen as being extremely antisocial. Hell, the cops would would be more likely to engage you in a street race and give you a thumbs up if you had a obviously worked off its nut car. Dont dare mod your car now, you'll break half a dozen laws doing it. And then we get to racing. Oh boooooy that's changed too. It's much more expensive and the safety requirements are often much higher - as an example I was rallying without a cage - and also without a helmet. Completely legal. The next rally car will start with 5 grand worth of cage because that's the minimum allowed, let alone the other mandatory equipment that drives the prices waaaay up. Then we also have the point that competeing interests were either non existant or much less. These days kids have a lot more things to do for cheaper, let alone they dont have to leave the computer to do it.

Not so many years ago, a car = freedom. It was your ticket to doing your own things, not having to bum rides from other people. It let you go and meet other people on your own terms. It may just be because I moved to a bigger city with good public transport, but there are so many other options now. Either you can socialize over the internet like a goon, or you could just take the bus. Outside of the cities, you have ridesharing, carsharing all of that stuff that simply didn't exist before. Rental cars used to be rented by the day, and you had to return them to a certain destination. With modern car sharing, you just leave the car in any legal parking spot, for the next person to use. I still like driving my car, but I can certainly feel that it's taking up less and less of my total "interest space".
