It's a bit goddamn depressing that the Corman FF movie stayed truer to doom than the last three movies did.

Corman is a fine film maker and always has been. His output to quality ratio especially with his Poe movies was loving amazing, and he was always under budget and ahead of schedule, sometimes by so much he just went ahead and made a second movie while they had the set.

I think that even the worst of Brosnan's Bond films (And that's "The World is Not Enough" not "Die Another Day")

The only terrible opinion here is that The World is Not Enough isn't just as good as Goldeneye and together the two best Bond films ever. Followed by Casino Royale, and then, yeah, all the other Brosnan/Craig movies are pretty terrible.

As I understand it, he'd been in Remington Steele since 1982 and was approached by Broccoli and Saltzman about playing Bond in The Living Daylights after his contract ended in 1986, during what was expected to be the show's final season, but the cancellation of Remington Steele was reversed after the last season obtained better-than-expected ratings and Brosnan's contract extended so he couldn't take the Bond role without breaking it. Stephanie Zimbalist had also been offered a big movie role (she was the first choice to play Lewis in RoboCop) which she had to turn down as a result.

Worse, news of Brosnan's consideration for Bond is what renewed interest in Remington Steele and killed his chance to get the gig.

Even though on paper X-23 seems like the kind of character that would suck (From a cartoon! Clone! Teen girl angst! Even MORE Wolverine) she's been used extremely well in pretty much every book I've read her in and honestly she's one of my favorite Marvel characters. From the trailer it looks like they are staying pretty close to the character, I'm glad they're bringing Laura to the movies. I'd even be cool with X-23 solo films if the character takes off in popularity.

I believe in a universe that doesn't care, and people that do.

Her very early appearances were godawful but yeah she's had a good run otherwise, except for a few minor hiccups where Bendis got his grubby mitts on her.

I think they might actually wind up having her supplant Logan as the movie Wolverine rather than recasting him.

Ok I looked and I think those are fake books. Both of them have a price of 40 cents on the cover.

UXM was $.40 from May 1979 (121) - Sept 1980 (#136) and none of the covers are those. But some of the most iconic issues are from that period, Dark Phoenix, White Queen, Proteus.

In the Marvel U, action figures and comics exist about the heroes that live in that world, so there being X-men comics in Logan makes sense.

Man, Logan trailers are knocking it out of the park. Love that they're not shying away from showing that Laura is just as violent and rage prone as Logan was. Also Logan grabbing the cigars after he saves the clerk is a nice touch.

Please don't gently caress this up Fox.

Nah I legit couldn't remember if the Wolverine had good trailers that got us hyped up or not.

I thought it had some good parts and some bad parts but it was way better than Origins, not that it's a high bar to clear.

e: FWIW, i09 has a review of the first act of the film (spoilers obviously) and they say it's Real Good.

Every villain in the Wolverine was either a bland Japanese stereotype or Faceless Ninja #293. Or a giant robot with an asian man's head riding it.

I'd put it around BvS; it has some moments and some very bad parts, but most of it just meh. Nothing mind blowing or especially terrible.

What, did they already retcon Wolverine Origins when he was a kid pre-Civil War? I never know anymore with the weird stuff they do with the Fox X-Men continuity.

It's also weird that they have Laura reading an actual X-Men comic.

The origin story for Logan seems to be "it's the future, but you kinda know what's going on. Don't think about it too much."

I say this every time it comes up and I get crucified every time but it was worse than Origins. At least Origins had a really goddamn great Sabretooth in it. The Wolverine has literally nothing I can recommend about the entire movie.

Rila Fukushima and a much better Jackman performance more than equal Liev Screiber hamming his way through impaling Will.i.am.

I think the first two acts of The Wolverine are really solid and then the end kinda falls apart because it totally drops the aesthetic and adds a bunch of twists out of nowhere.
