I think how gamechanging the movement is inversely proportional to your skill level. In lower skill brackets, people have a hard time aiming anyway so her added mobility might as well be an invincibility star. Once you get into higher skill brackets with McCrees/Soldiers who can actually aim, it's importance diminishes.

I can't think of any map that you can't at least teleport through the choke then go invisible very easily. and yes ult for ult trades are acceptable and with 6 charges left pretty much a great call. you probably weren't going to get any kills with that dva ult anyway

Unironically it's not a bad idea to D.va ult a tele or a shield gen if your team is unable to crack their defense. I've had to do it before.

Trading a self-destruct for a shield gen or teleporter is actually a pretty good deal...without her ult up, Symmetra is just Symmetra, without her ult D.Va is still a 600 hitpoint flying tank with defense matrix. One of those characters leans far more heavily on their ult than the other does, so if you can remove that from the equation it basically undercuts Symmetra's main purpose without spending anything you yourself are especially reliant on.

The current PTR patch includes sombra's ult disabling the shields on the shield gen, doesn't it? And I think I remember someone mentioning it shuts down turrets as well?

EMP doesn't do poo poo to symmetra turrets, and it wipes out all blue health shields, and barriers as well. So say if an enemy team gets graviton'd and the lucio sound barriers, you can wipe out that sound barrier instantly

Anyway it's sad that people get abuse for their hero pick, but if somebody is doggedly picking one hero in competitive even when it's clearly not working, then they can expect some flak. I won't say anything about somebody picking Widow in a viable comp, but if we start getting rolled and they've done nothing, the onus is on the Widow to switch to something. Widow tilts people more than most, but I see one trick players who will only play Genji/Hanzo/Sombra no matter what and frankly I don't feel sorry when they get people raging at them in chat. They already expect 5 other players to totally work around them, every single game, because they are unwilling to play other heroes in a game that is basically all about flexible team comps. It's a team game. If you don't want to play with the team or co-operate, don't expect everybody to gracefully accept you and your one hero lifestyle.

So according to that player about half the roster is "troll picks" including my main healing gal Mercy and sneaky Sombra whom I love despite the inaccurate fire. The more I read about the competitive scene the more I feel I should just stick to Quick Play and let the salt flow without me contributing to it simply by my hero choice.

Most of them are not troll picks, but they are all non-meta picks. That means they tend to work less well with how most people run comps in Diamond and above. That means some people will whine. I see all of them regularly except Torbjorn, Junkrat and Bastion. And I've had all three in non-troll games every once in a while. Trust me if you're at a low level SR you can play Mercy til the cows come home and people will probably love you.
