He's not saying that Vegas should keep costs low to help corporations booking hotel rooms. His point is that for a corporation booking a block of 500 rooms or whatever that incremental $5-10k per night could mean the difference between booking in Vegas or booking in Orlando or Chicago or whatever

Okay. That's fair. We were talking past each other in that sense then.

If I'm understanding you correctly, you're talking about a $40 increase (since that number was brought up earlier) impacting people who book rooms in bulk (corporations)?

If that's true then the logic seems to be:

Raiders move for money? gently caress THOSE RICH PEOPLE!!

$40 added on that cumulates to a LOT of money to people who book rooms in bulk? THINK OF THE RICH PEOPLE!!

Yeah, that's what I thought. You're misguided. And oddly ignoring the whole point being made, which is the tax being bad for vegas tourism/hospitality. It is.

I'm talking about the impact it will have on that economy. These companies are all about saving money. I do legal for a fortune 100 and as a result, I'm at arms length for most of these major deals with major corps.

These guys will change the entire location of a conference or retreat based off an extra $14 a night or whatever number over .99 cents you throw on it. Bank on it. That'll hurt the vendors as well as the hotels.

Some of the money spent building the stadium will go to like, contractors and workers and stuff though, right? Obviously the profits go to owners and the interest on the loans the local government takes out come from taxes (on tourists) but... oh, I guess a lot of out of town labor would be used, and probably the steel beams and stuff aren't manufactured in Vegas. But still there has to be at least a little bit of local construction that gets stimulated by the spend?

Yeah there should be. Construction workers were speaking at the senate meetings about how much they wanted the stadium here because it would bring work.

chupacabraTERROR posted:

Demand curves, how do they work??

Casino executives besides Adelson wanted this in Vegas, and they know what they're doing. If nothing else they'll eat the tax hike if the increased stadium visitors mean more money for them (and it likely will). Their rooms are already stupid cheap because they don't make, or at least rely on making, money from people staying there like a Marriott in Nebraska or something.

I misunderstood the point that was being made and was arguing something completely different.

That's pretty much the textbook definition of "talking past each other."

If this is the case then why on earth did the owners even put in a clause allowing the Chargers to have first dibs to be Kroenke's tenants within a year? Why not just nebulously declare it was something they could consider down the road but they wanted time to see how much NFL would be embraced in LA THIS time and give SD more time to put something together?

Was it to placate him and they tempted fate with a "he couldn't possibly be this dumb..."

They genuinely thought it'd be embraced and had less than no qualms about having 2 teams in LA

Would have worked if the first one of them did anything other than immediately flop

I can't imagine how they're gonna sell the Chargers to people in LA. Seems like it's gonna be even more lopsided PSL wise than Giants/Jets.

San Diego has basically signed up to be the bitchy little brother in a way the 90s Clippers could only dream of.

I kind of feel like they won't be able to sell any PSLs at all. They're going to have the hardest time selling tickets of maybe any team and there are multiple teams that don't do PSLs.

My guess is that Spanos made the announcement prior to approval.

The NFL seems to treat dissent like an old midwestern couple. A pained grin and maybe a snarky comment in front of the guests and then a screaming fit in private.
