Tomasi was an editor first so he probably had a lot to do with the creative process before he started writing GLC and B&R.

JLvSS wrapped up pretty blah, but here are a few new teasers. An ARGUS or STAR Labs lady seems like she's gonna be the new Johnny Sorrow. The mask is whispering to her about the JSA. Eclipso's diamond thing is picked up by a little kid after the battle. Max Lord is alive at the end being held by Waller for a new Squad... Task Force XI Edit: Kamandi was fun. I liked Didio's half more since Abnett's was more or less recycling the first issue of the original. And, you know. Robot Jack Kirby beating up a mutant rat man. Edit 2: DCU pun metal bands from Doom Patrol #4. Teenage Fansub fucked around with this message at 21:22 on Jan 26, 2017 |

I think JL vs SS was a surprisingly decent event. At least it was over quickly and didn't effect the entire line of conics for half a year. I think all the one-shots for JLA were great and I'm pretty excited for the actual series. Teen Titans was my favorite issue this week. I wish the art was better, but I really feel like this is a massive return to form for Teen Titans. Edit - Odyssey of the Amazins was really dull. Kamandi Challenge however is proof that more obscure Jack Kirby comics deserve to be brought back. Roth fucked around with this message at 21:39 on Jan 26, 2017 |

I didn't hate JL vs SS on an overall scale, but I feel like it was ultimately conceived just to hype some lovely movie characters, and I find the idea that Batman would condone, much less applaud, the very existence of Waller's Suicide Squad to be utterly ridiculous. (And I guess Batman just speaks for everyone else on the League now? No one has opinions of their own on this, they just follow whatever he thinks? You're seriously telling me that Superman, Wonder Woman, and Batman are all okay with putting bombs in people's heads to ensure compliance?) After this event and especially after the Killer Frost one-shot, are we still pretending that Waller is anything but a sadistic villain that needs to be shot into space? People sure are giving her a lot of leeway nowadays to be wholly, pointlessly repugnant and it's very hard to read, to the point that I kind of have to excise her existence from my mind in order to continue enjoying the DCU. I liked Odyssey of the Amazons. It did feel a little bit like coming into the second season of a preexisting TV show -- who are all these characters who seem to have all this history with each other? What has happened to get them to this point? They don't like Artemis? Why don't they like Artemis? etc etc -- but the plot barrels along and gets us swept up in the events (if not caught up, exactly). This interpretation of the Amazons is interesting. So it's not that all Amazons were made in Greece all at once, even though a lot of them did come from there, but also that they're...born throughout the world over time and slowly discover their natures. I like this idea 'cuz it opens up a lot of potential character ideas not just in this series, but in modern DC times. I hope they can find a way to make this fit in Rebirth continuity...the only major quibble being Rucka's whole "If you leave Themyscira you can never return" notion and at least most of these Amazons did leave Themyscira. But hey, maybe they'll end up never returning by the end of all this? Here's hoping . It's only the first issue so there's lots of time for anything to happen here. Speaking of, WW #15 is still moving slower than I would like...it's hard to say what I would change about it, if anything, because Rucka's setting up a ton of intrigue and mystery here to be solved and I like everything that's here. (loving FERDINAND. 2017 IS SAVED.) But if I had to pick, I would probably cut some of those Steve/Etta/Barbara pages and give it to Diana instead, who's been feeling a bit neglected these past two issues. Really, the most important revelations probably happen right in the first couple pages, with that naked guy chained to the tree. Some folks in other forums have come up with some very interesting theories on who that is...'cuz if we omit Ares, who seems genuinely unable to access the island, the list of naked guys who might be chained to a tree on Themyscira gets pretty short. Completely unconfirmed theory that's not even my theory, below. It's probably Jason, Diana's brother that was revealed during the last JL event thingy before Rebirth. It seemed like Rucka had completely ignored this character up until now, who isn't even so much a character as some rando tease from another writer, tied to a version of canon that Rucka is explicitly erasing. But Jason was actually referenced in the WW Rebirth issue ("And so by Zeus the queen came to be with child." "Or children.") so Rucka is definitely at least aware of this hanging plot thread. I assumed he'd just leave it for Geoff Johns to deal with whenever he got back into comics, but now I'm not so sure. So if it's Jason. Who cares, right? I certainly didn't. I could've gone forever without ever seeing him, or anything else from the Nu52, brought up again. But the theory goes that Jason is going to be a new/revamped version of the Duke of Deception from golden/silver age WW. http://i.imgur.com/y23myos.jpg http://i.imgur.com/XKrWTCN.jpg It's honestly a really interesting idea that I hadn't considered until now (insofar that I hadn't considered anything about Jason at all ). Rucka is basically trying to revitalize every single classic WW villain in this reboot so it wouldn't be surprising for him to get around to the Duke of Deception at some point. And considering how much this run is spotlighting Diana's innate nature as a truthbringer and destroyer of lies, it just seems to make sense that the one thing that could truly deceive Diana to this extent...the one thing that could so completely counterbalance the lasso and its bearer...might just Diana's opposite number, a dark mirror, someone as tangled up with Deception as she is with Truth. In this case, a twin brother. And then you consider the visual symbolism of black, snakelike chains of deception as an adversary to the golden lasso of truth...it'd be pretty striking. It could be really cool if done well and the more I think about it the more I really hope it turns out to be the case...but I'm kind of equally alarmed at the idea as well. For one thing, it could be too reminiscent of the Firstborn storyline. Which...like, we just did. The whole evil boss brother thing is all kinds of exhausted at this point. The other problem is that...it'd be real iffy if Hippolyta's female child juuust so happened to be pure and good and heroic while her male child juuust so happened to be dark and shady and villainous. Like that's...super problematic. And if she sent this child away for some reason...or if he ends up being the guy chained to the tree...well that just feels like shades of Azzarello's Hephaestus exile thing all over again, where Hippolyta treats her daughter with love and care but treats her son like trash. Blegh. No thanks. I'm sure Rucka is not keen on repeating that dynamic, so I guess we'll see how this goes. If it goes at all. After all, all of the above is utter speculation for now.

Mark Russell interview that I think is the first time it's revealed that The Flintstones ends at #12 and his Snagglepuss will be an ongoing after the backup in the crossover annuals. http://hilobrow.com/2017/01/23/this-look-at-those-cavemen-go/ Edit: Found the original press release for the annuals that mentions the backups as the 'next wave' of HB titles, so I guess that part's not new news. I rather like this idea, and think it would be an elegant way to explain the Azzarello's depiction of Themyscira. It makes sense that a loan, male Amazon who believes he was unjustifiably banished or imprisoned would shape a false Themyscira as treating all men that way. My only problem with it is that it's cribbing a lot from Marvel's Thor and Loki.

For one thing, the Robin chitchatting just makes me more upset Tim isn't there, and I'm also spectacularly tired of "THIS IS TOO MUCH FOR MY FRIENDS AND FAMILY WHO I DRAGGED INTO A LIFE OF FIGHTING MASS MURDERERS AND ALIEN DEMIGOD WARLORDS I MUST DO THIS ALONE GO ON GET OUTTA HERE".
