It is depressing, but I think the uplifting bits outweigh the depressing bits.

I dunno, watching the world slowly rot away is kinda depressing.

The art is phenomenal, but when I don't think you can really do a "twilight of mankind" story without it being at least somewhat depressing.

e: realtalk it's pretty often melancholy but mostly in a happy tears kind of way, a lot of it's about renewal and how different things will preserve the beauty of humanity after they're gone (the project the record and androids are both part of, the mysterious lamp plants etc.) it's vaguely stated that humanity is dying out but it doesn't deal with it very directly or tragically and two of the most prominent human characters are youngsters

It's definitely melancholic at times but thinking about it, I wouldn't call it depressing. At least so far. I've still 20 or so chapters left

i never quite got the abject hate for it but i didn't like it nearly as much as the first season.

Yeah, the fact that some of the most important characters are kids really doesn't allow me to be convinced that it's about a humanity without a future. It's certainly possible but I don't know that it's in the spirit of the work. Heck, even if flesh and blood humans die out, the androids as depicted are certainly more than capable of inheriting the culture and whatever purpose there is to humanity.

Season one is definitely the better season but I think the second season took the right path in what it decided to do. I don't think you could really go back to the episodic nature of the first season and I thought Suou was the perfect foil for Hei. I just really liked the world they had set up an the fact that it was a character in and of itself. I also liked that the gates didn't even seem like a huge part of the story and we were just following people who lived in that world.

that and the total lack of a follow-up are what nag at me about it. aside from just really liking hei and suou's relationship, s2 really works for me because it's much tighter at half the length of s1. i always stall out on rewatches during the middle/back half because of s1's more episodic nature.

The photo mode in Gravity Rush 2 is super great, in large part because it also fits the protagonist's personality really well.
