I assume, like everything else, parts of the old EU will be gradually canonized (if just by nerds trying to force parts of it in) but it won't even be Exactly The Same. Like I bet Mara Jade shows up in Rebels or something eventually.

The original Mara Jade story basically just has her hating Luke and wanting to kill him followed by moving on and Actual funniest answer: reveal that Kylo Ren murdered her, thus keeping it all semi-canonical.

Well, if the Mandalorian Wars are being mentioned, perhaps they will somehow unfuck everything that happened to Revan's character between his novel and the MMO. What a bunch of dogshit that turned out to be.

Like... it's pretty likely Luke had a wife, one that is now probably dead and murdered by Kylo Ren so you might as well just say she was Mara Jade because she won't be appearing in the movies anyway.

Then Revan goes crazy in the MMO, gets killed, comes back, goes crazy again, and is killed again.

Pablo Hidalgo has explained that Leia was at the Battle of Scarif because she was on her way to pick up Obi-Wan from Tatooine with Admiral Raddus as an escort but they got sidetracked on the way. Haven't really thought about it to see whether that fits or not. Presumably it does.

I guess this is as good an explanation as there is, but still is kind of sticky given that Bail says he's going to send someone to get Obi-Wan after Raddus is already said to be leaving, and then after that we get R2 and Threepio watching the rest of the rebel fleet leave to join the others, or why since Bail was there at the exact time, why he didn't join in. Not that this is something I get hung up on, but this part of the R1 ending sequence stuck out as not quite fitting together. I suppose a result of the edits/reshoots shuffling things around.

The newbie pilot forgot to fill the Tantive IV up, so they had only enough gas to get to Scarif and beg a lift from Raddus to get them there. It was really embarrassing.

Speaking of the youth market, Ben Acker and Ben Blacker are writing a series about 'child soldiers' in the Resistance. https://www.amazon.com/Star-Wars-Join-Resistance-Book/dp/1484704843 I'm a big fan of their work, so I'm actually pretty excited about this. Not going to expect anything mind blowing, but hey, it should be fun.

I think I've figured out why I dislike the animation in Rebels so much. It's not enough that the character design lacks depth, but they move way, way too much. Everything is always with wildly exaggerated gestures and heads that look like they're trying to reach escape velocity from their necks. It's the same issue that made CGI Tarkin look so weird, too many pieces moving at once when actual people's faces don't do that while talking.
