We're always hiring!

Someone (a few someones) already mentioned it, but: You can't debate the fascists because they aren't beholden to the same rules.

They're appealing to emotion, and emotion does not give a single flying gently caress about logic or truth or reality. You can't out-debate a feeling, especially one that validates/justifies a lovely world view.

It's the same reason Trump won; It doesn't matter that he's completely full of poo poo, he pressed the right buttons to make people feel good about themselves and absolve them of any personal blame, and that outweighed any objective reality.

Because, idiot, as much as we disagree with those people they are not openly and actively calling for the genocide of other races*. Their intractability is beyond annoying and this election is going to royally gently caress up the country for probably the rest of our lives (hello Supreme Court!), but they pass that test.

Their thought process also includes accepting that up is down when Trump tells them it is. What they think is insane and irrelevant.

If this is the case, then we're perma hosed, because in elections, what we lefties think doesn't matter, and what the hard right think doesn't matter, those two groups are set in stone. What matters is the swing voters in battleground states think. And when they saw that video, they overwhelmingly thought "Hey, the not-nazis resorted to violence? Doesn't help their case, maybe that guy and his friends have a point." And then the voters in Florida and Pennsylvania and Michigan vote for the nazis again because they didn't resort to violence to win debates.

Democracy apparently cannot survive if swing voters think punching nazis is bad.

When I say "punching a nazi is good", I don't mean we should pass laws legalizing violence if the target's opinions fit certain criteria, I mean that if someone's willing to risk jail in in order to punch a nazi they are doing the world a service.

If you're in a position to change laws or policies, yes it's true, I don't think you can tailor that stuff precisely enough to only target nazis once filtered through the entire system of government, police, courts etc. But if you're just a citizen on the street and you see someone who is definitely a nazi and you want to punch them even though that's legally assault, I applaud rather than scold you for doing so.

The fact that I picked Muslims (there I right clicked it) is superfluous. I don't even know why it's relevant unless you're just trying to nit pick at everything I say instead of listening to my argument. My only point is one group is advocating violence against another group which is the exact thing everyone saying is what makes Nazi's so bad. Sure genocide is way worse than a punch in the face. But I don't think anyone would disagree that a Nazi would say something like "you see someone who is definitely [ethnic group] and you want to punch them even though that's legally assault, I applaud rather than scold you for doing so". I just can't get on board with random acts of violence. Like I said where do you draw the line?

When the group in question is openly and inherently advocating genocide. This is not that loving difficult. The line is really loving clear.

Does Islam openly and inherently advocate genocide? No.

Do Christians openly and inherently advocate genocide? No.

Do Nazis openly and inherently advocate genocide? Yes.

Jesus.

No no, see, violence isn't the loving thing, it's the part where they think entire ethnic, racial and religious groups shouldn't loving exist. They cannot abide the existence of other races in non-slave roles.

In order to be a Nazi you need to believe this.

My understanding of the position put forth (many claiming that it is obvious) is that by virtue of the danger of their beliefs it is not only OK but laudable to punch Nazis. I'm not sure why this reasoning stops at sucker punches. What level of force is morally just and what level of force is wrong?

In his first appearance as White House Press Secretary, Sean Spicer lied adamantly about Trump's inauguration and claimed it was the biggest ever, "period". People ripped into this and provided proof he was wrong. Later, in an interview, KelleyAnne Conway tried defending him and, after having her bullshit shot down repeatedly, tried to claim that Spicer was just presenting "alternative facts". This, as you might expect, merely made things worse.

Trump's press secretary said a bunch of the kind of complete bullshit we should expect nonstop for the next few years at least, and then some communications lady in an interview afterwards said he was saying "alternative facts".

Edit: these are not just some TV talking heads these are some of Trump's top people, waging a war on the very concept of being right or wrong about things. If they keep up this pace it will be the end of America as we know it not in several years like I thought, but in a couple of months.
