Sometimes you reach a stalemate. Sometimes you get magic horses.

Artificer posted:

The vindicator and awesome have situations where they are good?

The awesome 8T actually has one of the highest damage over time potentials in the game due to how overquirked it is, the big problem with it being that it is so wide that it has trouble bringing all its weapons to bear. When a team rolls into a fight and it is not the immediate priority target it can absolutely mulch enemy teams with no mercy if you're using LPLs, and if you're using ERLLs and are on a large map you can very easily outpoke almost any mech in the game if they decide they want to get into a ranged staring contest with you. With MPLs and ASRM6s it can poo poo out tons of damage, and if it follows an atlas in it can very easily set that atlas up for one shots or finish off the targets the atlas hit with an alpha strike.

The 8R is the best LRM boat in the game, and when used aggressively is legitimately one of the better mechs you can field in the game. It can move fast enough to constantly reposition and keep up with a team's rotation, and it can carry enough tubes, heat sinks, and ammo to sustain fire for a long period of time. It also has enough armor to spot for itself, and with its head tag it can afford to barely expose itself while hill humping and just poo poo on PPFLD builds that aren't immediately hiding in cover. If your team starts to push it has enough armor to draft the brawlers into a fight while screenshaking and scaring people into cover with its LRMs, and once it enters the brawl it can peel off and just assist by focusing fire on anything that is further than 180m.

The normally second worst vindicator is a decent scouting mech because of the massive amount of quirks and armor that it gets. The 1R can either go 2 LPL/3ML or 3LPL, and its heat dissipation quirk combined with reduced weapons heat makes it able to sustain fire for a long time. The extra armor means it can afford to brawl against clan mechs very easily, and it doesn't have a hard time fighting novas as long as the first time it sees the nova isn't within 120m. It also has jump jets, which can massively boost your survivability in scouting matches if you position yourself properly. The only medium that plays similar to the 1R's niche is the sparky, but that's behind the MC paywall. Other medium laserboats don't get a combination of retarded armor quirks and dumb energy quirks, because they generally have either really good hard points or are on a decent chassis that doesn't need a shitload of quirks to be made decent in normal quickplay modes.

Part of piloting bad mechs is finding a niche for them where they are able to outcompete anyone else, and then trying to force fights in that niche situation as much as possible. The zeus is just a bad generalist that doesn't really have a weird situational role that it will do better than anything else. It's totally possible to do well in it, but using an actual good mech or a bad specialist that is great in its niche (like the Atlas) in its place would be a much better choice.

Definitely gotta agree with Commoners here about playing bad mechs to their strengths in general, and Awesomes in particular. Sure, you shouldn't bring an Awesome to a competitive match, but in the quick play queues there's not much holding them back. The 8T is overquirked, as he says, the 8R is lurms, if that's your thing (used to be a great SRM mech, those days are sadly gone) and the 8Q is the go-to mech if PPC bukkake is a must. Just avoid the 8V which is too all-over with its hardpoints, the 9M, which is underquirked and overengined, and the Pretty Baby, which was designed by mashing the 9M and 8V together.

Some guy was accusing us of exploiting minmaxing weights to field 100tonners and locusts, while also simultaneously accusing us of simuldropping to get more tonnage. After the first accusation it was just funny, but after the second it was hilarious because those two things are completely conflicting ideas.

He also whined and moaned with comments like "Oh, yeah. Locust swarms are SO hard to use."

We lost two games I think, one was really close. Most of the matches were the locust pile wiggling around to make their entire team turn around and usually getting a pick before all melting horribly, followed immediately by our assaults running in behind the turned around enemy team and horrifically murdering them all. Aves, Patton, and I got to shoot so many backs without any return fire.

Sounds like the typical butthurt crying from the type of pubbie who gets angry when their tonnage advantage doesn't get them victory by default.

That's why obnoxious warhorns on lights are very important.

Anyway it doesn't matter what you actually did/took, they lost so it's your fault their mech e-penis shrank slightly. How dare you.

I face tanked an LPL battle master, ran him over, face tanked a brawler timberwolf, ran him over, and then charged into a ppc warhawk and ran him over. It is very, very fat, but now I have to worry a lot about back shots.

The Bushwacker is an Inner Sphere generalist `Mech trying to emulate Clan designs.

Inner Sphere generalist BattleMechs are nearly always bad unless they get some huge quirks to compensate for the fact that they're trying very hard (and usually failing just as hard) to do everything a Clan `Mech could.
