if it looks like the republicans would lose in a landslide, it wouldn't even be chickenshit cowardice, it would just be the next logical step in the process of winding down the republic

i mean, south dakota legislature just declared a "state of emergency" to overturn an actual referendum with bipartisan support that would have set some ethics ground rules

3. Identification of Enemies/Scapegoats as a Unifying Cause - The people are rallied into a unifying patriotic frenzy over the need to eliminate a perceived common threat or foe: racial , ethnic or religious minorities; liberals; communists; socialists, terrorists, etc.

7. Obsession with National Security - Fear is used as a motivational tool by the government over the masses.

12. Obsession with Crime and Punishment - Under fascist regimes, the police are given almost limitless power to enforce laws. The people are often willing to overlook police abuses and even forego civil liberties in the name of patriotism. There is often a national police force with virtually unlimited power in fascist nations.

How much of this Chicago threat is from watching Fox News, and how much of it is from Rahm putting Trump on blast?

A president that can be baited by cable news and a loving MAYOR insulting him. This motherfucker is going to get a lot of people killed.

I would pay real $$$ to have an honest-to-god accelerationist tell me in good faith how this is all for the best because glorious socialism is right around the corner.

i'm a stranger to academia and really dont know or have any care to know specifically what counts for what but here are some thoughts that have nothing to do with socialism

the basic construction of government is a social contract that takes a moral temperature of a society and implements it in policy through force. that 'moral temperature' isn't from some innate human nobility, it's from the way that society's morals are ever-shifting and adapt based on evolutionary rather than just principles - every individual acts out of their primary, direct interest and the aggregate needs of the individual combine to create that moral temperature. sometimes the temperature and the contract are out of alignment, and that's the role politics plays with law - gay marriage was an issue where the law was different from the opinion of the people, and even under trump we're unlikely to see it repealed wholly. but that's not the issue we're facing here - we're facing a moral temperature that's out of control, a fever with chills spiraling out of control; a problem that is not one of law and that cannot be fixed through law

now under democracy, the individual is given immense power through franchise, and has no requirement to wield that power with responsibility or even a requirement that people form a mental framework of 'responsibility' from which to base their vote - if you want to vote for Richard Head because tee hee, you must be allowed to. the freedom of democracy allows no filter because an objectively correct filter cannot exist. this is the core paradoxical hole of democracy. but the above implies a framework of an Other asserting change onto extant structures, which is where the evolutionary development of principles comes into play. if you want a giraffe to have a shorter neck, the easy thing to do is tinker with it directly...but direct tinkering is an authoritarian power dynamic, so set it aside and depend on evolution. what you need to do then is to change the environment in ways that naturally create external pressures. giraffes in an area with nothing but knee high food would, over time, become shorter and shorter

when dealing with people and the complexities of social structures, it's so complicated that evolution is a terrible analogy - but it still asserts the truth that for society to fundamentally change without an authoritarian guiding its direction, society needs to be crushed and pushed so it can resist by change and adaptation. think of every social structure that's coming down, every social norm that trump is violating, every assumption being overturned, every person who sees things happening they never thought possible. those are all environmental externalities that did not exist before. those are all things that will be beaten into the genetics of our society. it is going to be violent and much like evolution the majority of deaths will occur without progress. what we think of as society might not survive at all through the forge. but it will change, and it will adapt, and it will become something different and harder and more resistant to the mistakes we're collapsing against

either that, or it will die and it will deserve to have died

does that make me an accelerationist? idfk but idfc sooooooo extra honey mustard please
