Anyone playing recently? Finally fired it up after backing it on KS way back when. It really does have that UO feel in a 3rd person view... Did UO actually have Quest from NPC's? I only ever played on private Shard servers but I don't think I ever got a working quest from any NPC unless I just never asked the right question lol. Usually played with a friend or two and just mined till I got enough good ore to make something beter than the start armor. Then got ganked by some group of PKers and lost everything time and time again. Never did get good at macroing hotkeys to spell casting and whatnot.. Still, right now it seems interesting however I just got to the main town after the starting refuge camp and outside of every player owned lot already being spoken for, this place is huge and, empty. More players were in the starting town Solforge(?) than this large one. Just a bunch of NPC's blowing kisses at each other.

I wouldn't mind coming back but I was mainly interested in dicking around with friends and group combat was too hosed to play & the designer kept insisting everything was fine. Unless you're willing to grind into a godking & just solo everything the game doesn't really work. For instance, they put in some code a few months ago so that ore veins respawn much faster when you're in a solo instance. So grouping to extract the most valuable materials in the game isn't really viable. Meanwhile, all the silver in the game is guarded by earth elementals, who are highly resistant to physical damage and immune to earth magic (which is the only type of magic that scales with strength). This pretty effectively shuts off melee characters from access to the material that is the main bottleneck in high-level crafting, unless they buy it off of an archer or mage. Last time I checked they were doing something about buff-stacking (a key component of god-kinging) but weren't really doing much to deal with serious imbalances between different choices, a problem that became more serious when they eliminated all-of-the-above as an option. idk let me know if something changes i guess 30.5 Days fucked around with this message at 05:30 on Jan 24, 2017 |

Oh, also, like 40% of the changes made in each patch by volume are totally undocumented and almost never explained. The patch notes are put together from a combination of the roadmap & their bugtracking. So depending on how much a team uses the tracker, their changes will be more or less documented in the patch notes. Engineering uses it a lot, design uses it basically never. So massive changes to crit rates, HP, spawn rates, whole game systems- if a change can be made entirely within the unity editor, odds are extremely good that it won't be in the patch notes & nobody will ever explain why it was made.

Oh fun. Well, guess I haven't been missing out on much I guess. Still, might tinker in it here and there just to get some use out of it and see if I can make any of my own fun like I did in UO. The NPC sounds and animations however really need work. It feels like I am playing a game from 2007 not 2017 with some of them. Has anyone on the team played Oblivion or Skyrim at least?

EdEddnEddy posted:Anyone playing recently? Shopkeepers at first gave out quests of some sort, but they were broken and didn't work, so OSI removed them. Classic UO's "quests" would be limited to those escort NPC quests I guess. UO let its gameplay flow organically, instead of lining you up and processing you through your available quests like every other MMORPG does. Another reason why UO was amazing and one of a kind.

If there's still a goon house/presence in Estgard, we just opened up NPC submissions for them for Dev+ people. If you have access, here is the thread: https://www.shroudoftheavatar.com/forum/index.php?threads/npc-submissions-requested-for-estgard.80921/ Note that as much as I personally would like to, I am not going to name the banker Butts Buttlord.

I'm still in Estgard, but I mostly just log in to do my daily session with the Oracle. I'm not Dev+, but do have anyone who is willing to compile our offerings of goony viking names for submission?

I could submit an Arl Owe character, if the title "Arl" is allowed. He decides who can and cannot enter Estgard, and wields a giant hammer to intimidate.

The last SoTA news letter I got said that February would have a short update to the game because....February is a short month. It then listed dozens of new items you can buy for real life cash. I don't know anything, I understand nothing

btw lum are the rumors true that you guys are essentially going on maintenance mode and that the vast majority of content will be delayed indefinitely as you continue to sell cash shop items? just asking as a low tier backer waiting for gold release

Every newsletter is about some cash shop item and every time I've tried to log in and play it's so laggy and jittery that I couldn't even look good in a 20 dollar robe with a texture copy and pasted onto it if I tried

I try my best to always talk about this scam of a game without insulting Lum because he is a good dude and a good dev, but it is hard since that is his current job and all. I imagine all the defense of this game (by all I mean four posters here and maybe a hundred left on their forums and Steam) are the big money donors still in denial. I only gave $30 and still the game is so unfinished, obsessed with cash shop transactions, and not at all what was promised that I genuinely am not sure if I'd ever buy a game again from the guy who made my favorite childhood game. If only I could get a lawyer for 8 dollars, then I'd still get 22 back.
