Well, you mentioned not having kids, those vans will help you keep it that way.

And by having kids, i mean producing them, you'd obviously be free to collect as many as you wish off the street.

It's kinda funny, because if you see a vehicle effectively completely disappear from Arizona roads, you know it's poo poo because it's not due to rust. I can count on one hand the number of first and second generation Mopar minivans I've seen on the road in the last five years. Hell, you could probably add the Aerostar to that and still not need a sixth finger.

Oddly enough, the Astro seems to be much more prevalent still, but that's probably also because the second gen is not that massively visually different than the first.

They were built cheap and sold to families who beat them to death. I should know, my parents went through two of them (1989 and 1993) in eight years. Both times they went from new to worn the gently caress out in four years. Still wouldn't turn down a turbo one, though :getin:

Auto darkening helmets, so long as you have a decent one, are perfectly fine for any kind of home gamer welding work. I use one for stick, MIG and TIG without issue. You can adjust the darkness factor with a little dial.

Cool! Didn't know they went that dark. Like I said, I haven't stick welded since before there were auto-darkening helmets :old:

The Door Frame posted:

Flux core, so I guess stick welding

Nah, that's wire-welding (MIG is wire-welding with gas, AKA GMAW - gas metal arc welding.) Stick is traditional welding-rod-with-flux-on-the-outside arc welding (SMAW - shielded-metal arc welding)
Actually, now that I thing about it, fluxcore wire welding may actually be SMAW?

fake edit: nope, it's FCAW - flux core arc welding.
Also, gently caress, beaten.

I'm at about the same spot with my welding. I'll tack things together and if it isn't structural run a bead. Ff it needs to not fail I'll tack it then bring it to someone that knows what they're doing.

I'm with you guys. I wasn't half bad at MIG back in high school, but that was a long time ago, and fluxcore is messier to begin with. definitely get a 3" or 4" angle grinder and a good grinding wheel. Not as sensitive to quality as the cut-off wheels (get a few of those, too - handy!) but still buy decent one so they don't explode.

Thanks for all the well-wishes. We finally got word today they will send her home Monday if nothing changes over the weekend. We started to ask questions and out of the three physicians cycling through the ward, not one was able to tell us exactly why she was still there or any estimate of how much longer it would be. (I understand this isn't an easy thing to judge, but after 7 days laying in the same bed being told she can't leave the room it was getting incredibly stressful for her). The overall concern seemed to be "Well, just in case something happens". Our other option was to spend $50/night + meals on guest housing and insurance would not cover it. They did start her on a exercise routine around the hospital to see if the movement causes any progression, so who knows. She might be delivering this weekend or in 45 days. Now accepting bets. Winner gets booze.

Wife left the front door open all day. I got home around 1pm, house was about 50F inside.

But that's not the problem. I was sitting at my desk around 2 when I thought I heard an intruder. Something by the front door. I grabbed a gun, couldn't find anyone, wrote it off as paranoia. Picked my son up from daycare around 5 made dinner and put him to bed. Went to lie down and out of the corner of my eye saw a very feral male cat slink out of my bedroom. Cue 30 minutes of me trying to get it out of the house. Tore everything off my counters, tore up the mud room, finding little bits of poo and smelling cat piss everywhere. I eventually got my welding gloves out of the garage, put my carharts on and caught it. Still managed to scratch me. Not fun. And I can smell but not find poo poo in my bedroom.

We live in a magical time. My wife's Juke is due for a CVT fluid change, which is a simple drain/refill with the correct fluid operation. But, the computer keeps track of the CVT fluid degredation and needs to be hooked up to a dealer's CONSULT computer to reset it... until now.

Now there's an app on the Google Play store that handles all the CVT diagnostic and reset procedures you need... for $5. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cvtz50.cvtz50&hl=en
