Yeah, I finished it in under an hour thirty. It does its job. Velvet is a good setup for a protag. She's like Yuri in that she feels like the rival from another, more boring Tales protagonist's story.

Cooked is a cool show and I've been enjoying it but holy crap the second episode was super depressing in a very familiar but always effective 'oh the food industry and processed foods are destroying cultures to make bucks and there's not really anything you can do about it on scale larger than your own home' way The first episode was fun, he builds his own oven out of aluminium foil...

Finished YKK. Or I mean, I finished it for now, because I probably ought to go back and look at some of it again later. They call it a "slice of life," and I mean technically it is, but the mood it creates is sort of singular and not what I'd associate with most other manga or anime of that description. I found myself really curious about the world Alpha lives in, but also perfectly happy with the fact that none of it ever gets explained, because that's not what the manga is trying to do. It makes you want to think, and that's good. Best art this side of Yotsuba&, too. Ashinano has an eye for naturalistic poses and sweeping, gestural linework that really sells motion. I guess I'll read his Piper Cub thing next.
