So, these amendments Corbyn wants. Are they what Americans would consider pork (i.e. the bill gets amended to also include "Send $$$ to that project!") or is it some kind to impose conditions on the Article 50 vote (i.e. If we do not get a deal that contains x, we no longer consider this an approval to Article 50)?

tbh it's probably the wisest course of action from the leadership's perspective, but he's got effectively no control over the parliamentary party anymore, and this risks deepening some of those fissures on the other hand, so would literally any other choice than having no official party stance, which would simply boggle the mind in its stupidity

I don't even mind the whip coming out cause at least there's an attempt to formulate a party position. The decision not to challenge the governments severely truncated timetable for debate however was a real misstep IMO I have no skin in the labour game but seeing them flail around is pretty embarrassing

I'd rather be the party that says "we told you this would be a disaster" 4 years from now than the party that says "we weren't opposed to this, but your implementation sucked" but I guess I assume many Brexiteers shouldn't be given that much credit for interpreting nuance. Maybe if Leave had won in a landslide?

OMG sriracha pudding! posted:please help me dad chat. I want information on education policy as it relates to the charter and school voucher/choice movement; my take on it was that voucher like programs don't do much more than preserve existing levels of school segregation ('choice' means sending your white kid to school with other white kids). This is especially problematic considering integrating schools is like the only thing we know of that has a strong, measurable, and consistent [positive] impact on student performance. https://www.amazon.com/Hope-Despair-American-City-Schools/dp/0674060261/ it's about the use of economic integration vs racial, and how smaller school systems reinforce segregation the irony comes in that a bunch of people from new york tried to destroy the system so their kids didn't have to go to school with the blacks and mexicans
