Related to that, I think they spend too much time picking on woke people. I mean Arthur Chu deserves it but why do they poo poo on DeRay McKesson, who Will calls "Dee Ray"? I know he supports charter schools, but other than that he seems decent.

And speaking of Will mispronouncing things, I just listened to episode 43 where he says "So-lan-gey Knowles" (57:30) and Felix says "Matt! Our child is not going to grow if you yell at him every time he tries to learn!"

Yea it's really important to remember when they start going on actual activists like DeRay, as much fun as Chapo is and all, they're super in the sphere of keyboard warriors and maybe don't take their opinions about activists too seriously. Obviously talking about actually useful people not some 'activist' who's entire history is "I worked for the Clinton campaign and canvased once, ergo I Know Some poo poo'.

The humour of DeRay is his activism on important issues contrasted with his vapid #brand posts on Twitter.

https://twitter.com/deray/status/644547814253535232?lang=en

But on a more serious level, there are legitimate concerns about his neoliberalism and relationships with businesses. Short story is that some people consider his activist career to be a stalking-horse of school privatization, given his previous job as an educator and his long relationship with Teach For America. There are rumours that funding by charter school networks is what allowed him to quit his job and become a full-time activist in the first place, and that his corporate-friendly image has resulted in the media promoting him above his actual contributions to the BLM movement.

that's a pretty crazy jump that ignores his, ya know, actual work and the danger he had of bringing a voice to the protests when the cops had no issue tear gassing and beating their way through crowds.

Like, either that's true or maybe he just thought tweeting the Doritos thing was a decent idea because it was a harmless show of support

It wasn't just that, he'd also constantly post poo poo about how awesome spotify is. No normal dude randomly plugs poo poo for corporations for no reason.

This Storify has collected his outspoken love of brands. McDonalds could be sponsoring him for all I know, but I think the more likely and depressing answer is that he's 100% genuine about his love and support of junk food and apps.

The best summary of DeRay is that he was unjustly arrested in Baton Rouge, wearing a #StayWoke shirt that the CEO of Twitter had given him a month earlier at Code Conference.

I don't deny that he's put his life on the line for a worthy cause, I just think he's hilariously clueless about the benevolence of corporations.

Is there an episode where they really tear into Chu?

Anyway, part of the reason I like these guys is that they occasionally pick on woke people and dumb liberals. Listening to people say "Republicans are stupid" for over an hour gets tiring and is the reason why I stopped listening to political podcasts and following politics for awhile.
