Also worth pointing out that Brookeborough was propelled into the leadership after a series of worrying by election losses to the emerging NILP and was canny enough to understand the divisions within the Labour movement locally and pounced on them by appointing Harry Midgley, former NILP party leader and MP who lost his seat due to his opposition to Franco (thanks to a quiet clerical intervention) and eventually split the party over his support for the Union, to his cabinet

I always feel Hope is just a false road that will lead you to somewhere that will trip you up into thinking that things can get better when a sinkhole is in front of you. It's something that you want to happen so that the issue can end before it gets worse, like it's something that can be expected in a universe where good fortune prevails inside a chaotic existance. You want something done, you make sure that the chances that you want to happen becomes more successful to near certainty and the chances that can screw you over are minimised to almost zero. Don't Hope, Don't Expect. Plan and Prepare.

Slim, it's the Commission that negotiates the withdrawal, and then the Member States in the European Council decide on that agreement after negotiations have concluded. Clive Lewis has said he'll vote against without amendments (not sure what amendments he means specifically). Corbyn is planning to run a three line whip on the final vote regardless of what amendments are added. Posts like the ones you quoted are from people who still don't understand what Corbyn wants, or who are wilfully deceiving others.

I think that's what people living and working in London want. I live in the North and what people really want here, is the government to subsidise train ticket prices down to London so we can access all those lovely free museums and galleries, and most crucially, to build council houses. The brexit vote was used by a lot of people to send a message that we are unhappy with the housing situation, and with the full knowledge that Brexit will gently caress London but that it can't get any worse for people stuck living in high unemployment low wage areas with a high street full of charity shops and American owned coffee shops. Although Londoners may complain about how high house prices and rents are in the capital and "you can live in a bedsit in Clapham or buy a 5 bed in Birmingham" that only applies if you can afford to actually buy a house. Outside of London It's getting almost impossible to find private landlords who will take DSS and if you do find one it's the absolute dregs with a tenancy that can be ended on the Landlord's whim. Build council houses, and the "they come over here and get given a council house when ordinary working class people can't get one" argument being used by racists, which probably caused the Brexit majority, will vanish.
