Depending on the age of your turntable, most modern amps/speakers won't work (though USB indicates it might be new enough). Basically, you'd need either a pre-amp or an amplifier with a pre-amp built in (the phono plugs are not the same as line in as they are connected to an internal pre-amp). I almost bought one a while back and I'm not sure how many or what companies still make them, but quite a few years ago I saw a home stereo system with a 'rip to USB" option for your CDs. I guess you'd just put in your CD and and USB drive and convert it to an MP3 copy. I know it'd take more time in the long run than just doing it on my computer where it would automatically sync titles and artists, but I sort of wanted something just like that for quickly to have on USB for my car, 360, etc.

I almost posted this video in the retro-gaming thread because it was so fascinating for me to discover that Habitat, the Mysterious Thing Nobody Seems To Remember, was the precursor to the Maniac Mansion/S.C.U.M.M. era of LucasArts games, which instantly makes so much sense when you think of them in conjunction. Or at least it does when you are so far gone in technological relics that you spend time thinking about 1980s online virtual worlds.

You wouldn't use it to rip CDs anyway, since it was real time and had no track info. It was useful for quickly digitising a track from vinyl/cassette or saving something from the radio.

Take it apart enough so you can see the back of the pot then spray deoxit into an opening on it and turn the knob around a bit. That's what i always do. Give it a few minutes to dry (though I don't think electronics cleaner conducts electricity, but better safe than sorry).

I havent posted in this thread in a while but I recently got my silver face amp recapped and cleaned. I got it maybe 5-6 years ago and it started having some issues. Anyway, works like brand new now and sounds loving fantastic. I was shopping for a Marantz but they were just too expensive and hard to find so I decided on this Sansui:  There are plenty of good models like this that are easier to find. With some light work they can sound like new and will probably run forever with some simple maintenance.
