Summoning Salt, the one that made the SMB WR history video on YouTube that was posted about a few pages ago, has been continuing the series with some more speedrun WR retrospectives, including Single Segment Mike Tyson fight in MT:MP and Super Mario 64 120 Stars.

I've loved all of these videos and I think this dude struck gold with this video series. Plus he does a great job with the editing and storytelling.

Not really speedrun related, but for some reason TMR's NESMANIA tracker bumped down to 222/714 games. I'm guessing he wasn't satisfied with something but now it just seems really dumb to re-do games.

Well he did hours and hours of streams recently deciding what to do with it, I imagine the answer is in there somewhere but I haven't got that kind of time to look.

He's not redoing hundreds of games. A few games weren't properly finished or had messed up captures and he's going back to do them. The counter 222 is because he's redoing game 223 right now.

Oh okay that makes sense I guess. I haven't been watching his stream for a while so it was jarring to see the number go down after only needing a few dozen games left.

So I was watching some of the rpg limit break 2016 runs and the lufia 2 ancient cave run was really entertaining and tense as hell, is there a place to see those in particular, I loved running the ancient cave back in the day when I had lufia 2.

Also, any other particularly good runs from rpg limit break 2016? The robotrek run was outstanding, and the drakkhen run was good outside of the awful couch commentator, and ended in a perfectly drakkhen way, but I'm not sure what other runs are worth watching from that.

Final Fantasy Adventure is really good overall, Yokai Watch is pretty good, and Final Fantasy GBA is decent. I also enjoyed Soul Blazer, Daggerfall and Battle Network.

I love Chrono Cross because I find SpikeVegeta really entertaining, but it is an absolute monster of a run.

There was an Ancient Cave tournament/marathon last Saturday on Elmagus' channel: four groups competing for two hours each for points, then finals. The video can probably keep you busy for a while. (I actually competed, in the second group, but I'm not usually a speedrunner so I played too slowly.) Zack was in that too. There were some pretty good highlights!

Each section was apparently recorded separately, so just check his videos. It's the Fatal Blowout Tournament.

WOW what a grate sports paly by the 49rs (better than seahawks)
I'm back again with another Shovel Knight miscellaneous category. If you have the Shovel Knight amiibo, you can play the game as "Custom Knight". This removes your ability to use anything that you buy in stores. Instead, picking up money levels up your amiibo. Each level gives you either a new relic (some of which aren't available in any other mode), new abilities, more health and magic, or cosmetic items. The speedrun category lets you use an amiibo of any level, so obviously you max out the amiibo and start the game with all this cool poo poo. I kind of got tired of running Plague Knight because fighting bosses as that character feels like a chore, but custom knight gives you the fun mobility options from Plague and also lets you nuke the bosses with these whacky overpowered relics they give you. I've been enjoying running it a lot.

This is the best run of this category I've got so far. It's pretty wild that this PB'd given how bad I beefed it on the final boss, but it's the first run I've finished with these routes to Explodatorium and Flying Machine, and I guess that more than made up the difference.

pyf gigantic speedrun fuckups

I just saw this one and it certainly jumped up my list

https://clips.twitch.tv/jenja23/WildFrogDeExcite

(he accidentally clicked "yes" to fight the boss solo instead of "no", nearly 8 hours in, he still got a good time but he lost 20+ minutes from that decision and I love the reaction)

there's also that one final fantasy X(?) one that was over a day long, he played it perfectly, and still got killed by something totally out of his control(Malboros iirc) right before the final boss

Hahahaha great, the salt is real

edit: here's a good Lufia 2 Ancient Cave one with a fantastic "WELP!" face shot

(click for big)

That is a monster zoo/treasure room. In it are no less than eight Ninja mobs(the red/blue guys), which automatically hunt you down the moment you enter a room, and a single Ninja group can kill even overleveled parties(which speedrunners are definitely not). Also 3 red plants which are extremely bad news, and a bunch of other guys who are also bad but not run-ending.

The exit staircase is past all those.

It's still not as bad as a Blue Mimic spawning on top of the staircase though, since I don't think it's possible to beat those when speedrunning.

Nor do I, because last I heard it only applies to the Japanese version and has no translation.

Also it has a timer.

There is a translation, and the timer is per-floor and a huge non-issue iirc. I'm bad tho so I can't speak to its strategic depth.
