So uh, any other Oculus Touch owners having trouble with Steam VR? The Oculus software and games and stuff is all fine, and I can run the Steam VR tutorial fine with the Touch controllers, but the controllers are not working in Steam VR Room Setup. Specifically none of the controller buttons do anything in the Room Setup. It detects the controllers and the headset, but I cannot trace out any areas or anything because that needs the trigger. Trigger does work in the tutorial though so dunno what Room Setup's problem is. Tried rebooting, Googled a bit, but nothing. Any ideas? :/

Tried uninstalling and reinstalling as well, still the same issue.

You can also use a joystick with EVE: Valkyrie which makes the game a lot better if you are used to using one (if you play Elite or any other space/flying game since the 90's with one). I find the precision you need to have to be good with the guns in the game is much easier to hold with a stick vs the gamepad, but that's me. Also the grind for the game (that they want to charge a stupid price for over those of us who got it free) it extremely annoying. I wonder if it's gotten any better in the last few months.

Touch Buttons being broken in SteamVR room setup has been broken for an embarrassingly long period of time. Like 6 beta builds and 4 prod builds. As mention, use ChaperoneTweak to fix your boundaries and also get Advanced OpenVR settings where you can use the Floor Fix button and also disable Chaperone walls from displaying, keeping Guardian, which is always on, visible.

I think there was an issue where you had to block the sensor on the Rift headset so the oculus SDK thought you were still wearing it while doing room set up.

Oh, yeah, this is probably it. If the proximity sensor (it's in the top center, right above the lenses) isn't tripped then the controllers disappear. You can carry the headset with you and just put your finger there.

Walk into Caeser's palace or the Linq and there's all these posters with Vives and Oculus Rifts and you can apparently play the same games you have at home - there are even entire stores that just offer Las Vegas VR experiences now. When I was in Vegas last November, I saw one VR place (in the area by the Linq leading to the High Roller) which offered a prize for getting a certain score in one of their games.

Speaking of D&B, I just tried the Void Witch level of Horde mode for the first time, goddamn it's cool. The effects they do with the smoke attack thing especially. They also updated Guardian so instead of giving a solid blue glow when you get close to the walls, it make a hole around your hand, meaning you can actually see what you're doing.

Are there any good Touch/What the Rift controllers are called VR games with a lot of content yet? All the ones i have so far are kinda just gimmicky/feels like demos and are over in a hour or two, and that's fine, but if there are proper Touch games out there i wanna try them.

Depends on what you mean by "content." I think the Unspoken does, in the sense that the balance is pretty good and the game is pretty deep, so you'll be able to put time into the game and get a good sense of progressing your skills, but it's multi only and you can technically see all the "content" (different classes, maps, abilities) within a few hours. That's probably the game I've put the most time into. I Expect You To Die is closer to 3-4 hours, so still not very long, but I think it does a good job of showing interaction and stuff and definitely feels polished and "complete" although short. The Climb was updated to use the Touch controllers and that game can be pretty long, it's super well done and very polished. It's sort of same-y in the sense that you see all the moves you're gonna do pretty quickly, but there's a bunch of maps and going through all of them takes a while. There's also a pretty high skill ceiling there in terms of how quickly you can move through the maps, and getting better at that is pretty fun. Arizona Sunshine is also longer but still not that long (again probably 3-5 hours or so, depending on how quick you wanna blitz through it). Zombie shooting, they recently added non-teleporting locomotion which is cool.

AgentF posted:Why does this game have such a strange name? "Close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades" is an expression. Horseshoes being the backyard game. The targets in the game seem to be anthropomorphized hotdogs (I heard the game's creator does not like to use human targets for pacifistic reasons), so I assume he put all three together for an alliterative title. It compacts nicely to "H3VR".

Onward got a big patch today.quote:
Flashbangs are amazing now, the spatial audio update is also huge, lots of scenic improvements like skybox/horizon quality improvements that really improve the feel of the map, and performance is so good I was able to bump my SS up to 1.5 from 1.4 (I have a 1070). I actually ran great on 1.6 until I got into smoke heavy maps that used to make my system chug on 1.4 SS. Dante just keeps making this game better and better. It is really in the realm of must-play VR if you want a good MP VR shooter.

Climbey style grabbing locomotion is really awesome and I wish more games implemented it. Grabbing the world with the motion controller and moving yourself around feels perfectly natural and doesn't seem to cause motion sickness. It also seems really easy to add to a game.

Otherwise Vanishing Realms and The Gallery are the best SP games I've done so far but are pretty short. Obduction will be getting Touch support at some point (hopefully soon) which I'm really looking forward to. Definitely do need more SP meaty content.

Thumper is bonkers. A great mixture of high tension and a numbing trance. Playing it with the rift earphones I just got and they're nice, but in games with voice chat they make it hard to hear my own voice and I'm never sure if I'm yelling or talking weird or something.
