Right, but there's more than one way to skin a cat, and folks like those don't go to teams that already have a Technical Director, Director of Engineering, and Chief Engineer. They want to be the single man in charge and they won't get that at McLaren. Hell, that's arguably why Paddy Lowe left Mercedes. And, frankly, I think engineering is the last area that needs to be addressed in the dumpster fire that is McLaren in 2017.

Paddy Lowe owns a chunk of Williams now which is probably a big part of why he left for them. Frank isn't well and Clare's a media/finances type, so he's going to have unchecked freedom to do what he wants with the car.
