Bloodline is good but depressing. Not to be confused with Bloodlines which is a piece of Karen Traviss poo poo.

The New Rebellion is pretty dumb. The scheme the bad guy concocts is just incredibly stupid, as is how it gets resolved. I mainly wanted to read it because I understood Brakiss was in it, and I wanted to understand his history with Luke. As it turns out there is almost nothing there, and his appearance is as much of a wet fart as the rest of the book. None of that ever got any treatment in a book except some later mention that Brakiss would have been in the first class of the Jedi Academy but goes unmentioned in the trilogy just like Corran. Young Jedi Knights builds him up to be an important character, enough that you'd expect him of having some impact on the adult books, but he really doesn't. The Remnant was apparently really running out or ideas and talent at that point. They chose the most inconsequential guy in the galaxy to be the headmaster of the Sith version of DeVry.

The whole episode was one of my earliest disappointments with the EU.

Wasn't the Empire also officially sexist for a long time in the EU? I remember that being one thing about Darla that was treated a small a big deal; she became an admiral despite the Empire's institutional sexism so she must very a very good commander. Of course, later on they revealed she suffered brain damage and became an admiral because she was sleeping with

Yes. That would be Kueller. If I remember right the book only states that he wears some sort of deaths head mask that he thinks makes him look scary. But at some point an author got a hold of it and ran it into the ground. At least the cover just has a skull on it, next to the standard copied head poses, and some other borrowed elements. At least it's painted, I'd take this ahead of the bad photoshopped garbaged we get now any day.

A similiar thing happened with Nil Spaar. At no point does he do anything with eyeballs, but I guess somebody decided it really pulled things together.

she wasn't loving just any admiral, she was loving tarkin, and he liked her enough(or wanted her away from his wife) that he put her in charge of a bunch of autistic dickhead scientists building another death star and a magical mary sue ship in the middle of the 20 million black holes.

Hadn't thought about it like that, but that makes a lot of sense.

We should do a read along of one of the lesser known EU books. I know there was one that covered all the really bad ones but I feel like The New Rebellion probably got lost in the shuffle since it's not Darksaber-bad.

There are so many things about TFA that made me think "I know this wasn't intentional but this is pretty much just a different name for something the EU did."

Yes. That bit seems to have been quietly dropped once the movies started casting women extras as Imperials - there seems to have been a tacit retcon that there were always plenty of women in the Imperial military, please ignore Lucas only casting white dudes as extras for the Empire in the old movies.

Were there women Imperials (officers) in Rogue One? I feel like they are being fairly careful about the characterization of the OT-era Empire, at least in the main live action movies.

The compliance chip arc was pretty good, but the Yoda ones mostly suck. Except for the one where Yoda tells Skywalker that he knows he'll help him break the rules. Not Having the last season isn't a huge deal but I'd prefer it for completionist reasons all the same.

Yoda fighting a gollum wannabe was the worst because they had already done a gollum ripoff at the start of the arc with syfo dias, and another gollum tipoff with maul even earlier. The theater mask aliens were also loving stupid. Darth Bane looked neat at least, but calling Korriban Moraband was groan worthy.

Maybe Disney has a thing against TIE Interceptors. Which is lovely because they're cool. My pet theory is that JJ didn't use them because they were from ROTJ and not ANH or ESB and thus are less "iconic".

TFA was really disappointing if you're like me and really like spaceships and dogfights. The only fighters they had were X-Wings and bog standard TIEs, and there was no capital ship action at all.
