but €60 for tom clancy's ubisoft open world again feels rather silly so far
kind of like the gunplay. popping heads feels rather rewarding, as it should. so far it reminds me of a much wonkier mgs5

Farewell, marble-dwellers!
How is the shooting? Is it like The Division where you can actually hit things from 3rd person or do you always need to pull the gun up to your face (first person) for any kind of accuracy?

Shooting's not terrible, but the controls suck compared to The Division. Also, bullet drop and travel time is hugely exaggerated, especially on sniper rifles. I think there is a sort of cover system but it felt almost nonexistent.

Shooting is probably one of the few areas of the game I would consider remotely acceptable but it's undermined by the weird floaty aiming (at least on the Xbone) and the absolutely awful character movement and halfassed cover system.

The whole game feels like they cribbed some ideas from a few other games (MGS 5, Mercenaries 2, Far Cry, Splinter Cell and Ghost Recon: Future Soldier come to mind) and put them together in a really mediocre package.

The strange part of the shooting for me , was the 3rd person aim point is slightly off from the aiming down the sights

So you'll have your cross hair on something in 3rd. Switch to sights and be aiming 3 inches to the right

Very strange

well 3 of those games/franchises are made by the same publisher/company/people. but yeah i get your meaning. its far from bad, but it feels very ubisoft with some mercs1/mgs vibes. i am still gonna get it at this point because i like this sorta game(slowly pick away at giant enemy factions, probably why i like mafia 3 alot) plus i want the santa muerte statue that will probably look like rear end. the game runs fine on the ps4 which is nice. my only issue is how empty the world feels at times.

I wanted to like this game but I'm not feeling it. Really got into Division but the story mode in this beta holds absolutely zero interest. I would compare this to something "open world" like Far Cry 2 I guess. I see the same thing happening to me with this that happened in FC2. Boring same-y missions dotted around the map that isn't actually all that interesting outside of "wow this is big", connected with same-y encounters.

Tried some single player in this game and I kinda hate it. The order wheel absolutely sucks, the AI is kinda bad, and I just started noticing all kinds of kinda janky poo poo about this game.

First off the explosions look like total crap. It seems completely random as to what is destructible and can be shot through and what can't. And why can't you pitch a helicopter down to fire the guns without losing altitude? That seems like a major oversight.

Also I tried to take over an outpost and I killed everyone, tagged all the supplies, and freed the rebels. It then said I had two minigun emplacements left to take care of but...they were invincible? Explosions did nothing to them, bullets went through them, and there were no enemies manning the so I could walk up and use them. What am I missing?

But yeah the fun in this game seems to come entirely through co-op.

This was a day one buy for me, but now that I've played it I can't see any reason to put more time into it. I actually enjoy the shooting, the vehicles don't bug me, but other than doing exactly the same thing over and over again with long drives in-between the only carrot is the crappy weird skill system.

The rare moment when your team is totally in sync and you take a base perfectly is amazing, but it's not amazing enough to put up with the other 99% of the game. :(

Someone tell me I'm wrong please, I really want to love this game.

Nothing. When the base is occupied by hostiles the fixed guns are a tactical concern, so you want to keep the bad guys of them, but once the bad guys are dead, you can ignore them.

After spending more time playing the beta I find myself liking it more to the point of wanting to buy it. Switching AA from Temporal to FXAA, turning down shadow details and turning off godrays sorted out my performance related issues, upping the difficulty eased some of my gameplay concerns and I am the kind of person who enjoys the "here's a big rear end open map, here are the bases and here are your tools, go knock yourself out" type of game.

Hold right shoulder but make sure the left stick is centered or it's wonky(at least on PC), use the left stick to pick and A to confirm. It's a super bad interface on a controller. You use the D-pad if you're in a vehicle for basic "shoot dudes/don't shoot dudes".

This game also needs emotes and jump and roll buttons. gently caress being super seriousness Ubisoft and let your hair down a bit.

I came out of these last two Ubi beta weekends feeling the opposite way about these games than I expected. I will likely be buying For Honor but this feels underwhelming. I think it might be a good idea to wait and see if they improve it over time ie The Division. There's fun to be had with 4-player co-op shenanigans but not enough to make me want to see more.

i assume they will, ubi is pretty good about patching and adding poo poo to their games post launch. my "hope" is that this is a older build of the game or restrained somewhat for beta purposes.

I feel like every beta, the company claims it's a wicked old build to explain away all the glitches and then when the game launches a large amount of those glitches are still there. Heck, even battlefield one still has the glitch where you can't shoot if you get revived until you switch weapons, a glitch that led to them telling the people in the e3 multiplayer stream to just not bother reviving each other to avoid showing that glitch so even when developers know something's wrong, they might not even fix them before launch and beyond.

true but battlefield 1 kicks rear end and they fixed most of the problems. i am sure they are gonna fix some here, but yeah your probaly right.

either way i finally beat it.

+ co-op is great
+ shooting is fun and has some good weight to it.
+the setting is nice and the story while cliche seems interesting enough(i dig the Clancy game bullshit.)
+vehicles are better then i would thought they would be.
+ world is pretty and decently explorable.
+ i liked the radio stations.
- squad commands are stupidly complex controller wise
- friendly AI is dumb as gently caress
- enemy AI is only slightly better.
-enemy numbers are weird some times.
-not enough side activities in the beta(i am sure there are more in the full game even if they end up repetitive)
- Where the gently caress are the subtitles.

As for the game, went from not being all that interested to at least interested enough to buy it day one. I'm strangely drawn to gun porn and mediocre checklist bullshit, which is exactly what this game will deliver. I get that people were expecting a much more serious game than just The Division mashed into Far Cry 4, with vehicle handling courtesy of Watch_Dogs but eh, it seems kinda neat.

it almost certainly is an old build that was frozen quite some time ago before being worked up in parallel for public release; but that's not really the point - the question is what have they managed to do with the main fork in the meantime. Sometimes that's "not much" and sometimes it's a lot. I see a lot of potential here and I hope they've hit some of the performance and general UI/input bugs but who knows?

I was hoping this game would be as interesting as the Division. It is not. To me it feels like generic Ubi World gameplay, only now 4 people have to suffer through it, the group AI is so poo poo only coop is enjoyable, the PC controls are clunky and the setting is not really interesting, plus a cover system seems non-existent?

The Division had a much more interesting story in a more tightly packed "universe", this is just wide open nothing with missions sprinkled on it.

Finished the last bits remaining on the map. Overall, somewhat disappointed (but, unfortunately, not really surprised) with the majority of vehicle controls on PC, gun sounds, various faction AIs, NPC team AI, indestructible and bulletproof wire fences and soccer nets. Character movement and gunplay feel floaty, but heck, I say the same about Warframe and like literally every person I know enjoys playing it. I don't find interface to be particularly well thought through, and I don't think there's much virtue to be found in variety of gameplay and the storyline. Hence, in the absence of necessity to do video game busywork, I plan to to check back on game after the release to see if this was or was not a really old build we ran to test hardware compatibility/servers/something, and that may salvage the game for co-op with friends. I really doubt anything will improve though, so with my 4 person shooter game group this one most likely will go down as "classic Ubisoft, check back in a year to buy for 15 euro to take a break from fun games".

This really is unbearably poo poo and boring in singleplayer, the squad interface shouldn't use the loving mouse wheel and then have a confirmation click to issue commands... it should be a radial menu that you just hover and release the radial button.

On top of the fact that squad ai is so so stupid and pretty much won't do anything unless you tell them to... including just passively following you(?!).

This game will live or die by how much support Ubi gives the co-op players and I think from the marketing that they're aware of that.

It's one of the more fun co-op games I've played in a long time so it's got my money just for that really, just sucks that it's going to be terrible if you just want to zone out and play by yourself.

Yeah the area in the beta is indistinguishable from any recent Far Cry or Just Cause. There's mountains and shanties and lots of half build towns for some reason.

Actually honestly other games do a better job of giving areas personality and feel lived in. This feels like "here be bad guys and a couple civilians that wander around to accidentally get shot or run over."

Even though I had fun with this game in co-op I think it might get shredded in reviews. Single player is garbo.

I'm enjoying some of the little things, like people walking alongside the road like they're used to cars passing by, instead of just every single one freaking out when a car gets near them like every other game out there. Also, enemy vehicles fleeing at realistic speeds/driving instead of turning into the perfect driver that is a pain in the rear end to keep up with.
