Yeah, I'm all for boycotting as many lovely companies as possible, but the idea that you're persuading anyone or even remotely advancing toward the goal of Full Socialism Now by acting holier-than-thou at 95% of the public for their consumption choices is pretty dumb and in all likelihood deeply hypocritical

e: reminds me of the time I was standing in line at a movie theater in Berkeley and a self styled activist guy thought it would be a really great idea to stand there and yell at the theater patrons for half an hour "HOW CAN YOU STAND THERE AND PAY TO WATCH A MOVIE WHEN THERE'S SO MANY HOMELESS PEOPLE"

yea the sooner an activist realizes that for the majority of people the reaction to some person smugly informing them that actually EVERYTHING is bad and happiness is counter-revolutionary is to go 'ok well gently caress off then I guess' the sooner they can actually work on converting people instead of aggressively trying to feel superior to others.

Uber was intentionally/directly profiting off the strike and Lyft wasn't, and even pledged money to the ACLU. I don't like or use either company because they're anti-union but it's a false equivalence to say they are doing the same thing.

edit: I understand the impulse to criticize both companies, but where does it end? Do you berate people for shopping at non-union Trader Joe's or Whole Foods when there are unionized grocery stores like Safeway, for example? Scolding people for their consumption habits is not only a bad strategy but it's (intentionally or unintentionally) a stalking horse for promoting sustainable capitalism as much as anything.

yea in that whole thing the issue was Uber was, at best, ignorantly profiting off the strike while Lyft knew enough about what was going on to join in and offer their own support. Ridesharing is a real dumb scam but there is a good bit of daylight between the two there.
