So the main villain in Fire Punch just revealed their motivation and it's to rebuild civilization(by killing everyone) just so they can see the newest Star Wars movie. Yeah.

Real talk I've been blasting through the last six months of jump and Promised Neverland has been a surprise contender for second favorite series currently running, tied with MHA and right behind One Piece

I just want it to go back to cute kids having fun and dancing and less "oohrah my special ability lets me counter yours" poo poo that it was making fun of like 5 chapters before it actually happened. Sakimoto is the worst part of this series. At least in-story he (should) be out of the picture after this competition, so future events will go so much better. But yes, the best parts are Tsuchiya and Watari being cute and adorable and I can't wait for them to kiss. Between them and The 1975, I actually sorta like "You Don't Know You're Beautiful" now.

Hahaha, the Dungeon Meshi reference Fire Punch chapter. Speaking of Fire Punch, it's actually gotten a lot better starting with Togatta's introduction. Less random depression porn. edit: So I got to the most recent chapter. Man, haha, what the hell. This is so bizarre. I have no idea what direction this is going to take now, since I don't see how Agni can reasonably continue to pretend being a God without Togatta there, and there's also no reasonable way he could defeat the Big Bad guy/girl with his abilities. However I see a lack of interesting female characters other than his sister and the doctor. Also I completely forgot some of the supporting characters since they meet so many different people on their journey. The sense of humor w/expressions reminds me of the good days of Magi. Sounds balanced to me, since the count of interesting male characters is also at two

I'm not sure we could really call his sister that interesting since she doesn't speak and mostly fights 90% of the time. Hopefully we'll get a new female character soon since party comp is almost done for a shounen series. Speaking of anime the Blue Exorcist Kyoto arc reminds me why I like the original manga so much and how they deal with a huge cast w/o ignoring 50% of the side charas. I recc'd if you liked S1 but disliked S2 anime original of it. I feel like there's another movie but I've not seen it.

I'll give you Dark Souls man, but MC and scaredy-cat just about add up to one interesting character when put together. The swordsman's only defining feature is "showed up in chapter 1", i don't think that qualifies him. The sister at least has some fantastic fight entrances sometimes, and some kind of hidden/unrealized thing going for her yet. Whatever it was that led to her setting her blood on fire. It was framed a little confusingly.

I feel like swordsmen is going to be the next mentor figure and eventually MC will learn the true meaning of strength and surpass him. I keep hoping MC will get better but so far he's just into revenge/saving his sister but it's only been 1 yr too. Don't get me wrong his sister is cool but so far all we've seen are some flashbacks. Also how much leeway do manga-ka get once they find out their series is being cancelled? Ideally it should give them a few weeks to hammer out a TBC ending for their few remaining readers.

A couple new chapters have popped up on Mangastream. We Can't Study is generic as hell, but the art is nice. I give it two more chapters before it devolves into Nisekoi-style shenanigans. The Promised Neverland: the train has no brakes.

There's a lot of manga where the protagonists are in high school, but how many focus on the protagonists studying for normal academic subjects? Of course, there's a good reason there aren't many manga like that; there's not much escapism there.

Cipher Pol 9 posted:We Can't Study is the literal translation sure Benkyou actually has several definitions (one of which is closer to "learn" like in the official title, another is to put effort into trying hard at something), so at best I'd say that's a literal translation (and granted, clearly the one you're supposed to initially take away at a first glance). I just bring it up so people can be aware the Japanese title is also multi-layered like that.

The Promised Neverland has been exciting lately. I wasn't expecting things to hit the fan so fast. It was obvious the Mama would be aware of Ray's betrayal (and I'm not sure why he didn't expect that), but I wasn't expecting her to suddenly "attack" them out of nowhere; I thought it would be the sort of thing where they would start their plan and she would counter it and reveal she knew about it all along. I am very eager to find out what happens next. It's good that it seems to be doing well that it isn't at high risk of being cancelled. edit: I also like how Don rescued Ray using his practical skills, like when he pick-pocketed Mama before (which was pretty loving impressive given what we know about Mama). I was expecting him and Gilda to be kind of useless (and to be fair Gilda kinda has been), but Don has shown himself to be quite skilled/useful. I'm still only giving him ~50:50 odds of actually surviving this first arc, though. Ytlaya fucked around with this message at 17:53 on Feb 7, 2017 |

All the kids except Emma die in the escape, there's a timeskip, and it turns into a battle shounen. To be serious though I do expect Norman and/or Ray to die/get captured and Emma will have to deal with stuff on her own. She was kinda introduced as the main character and has done basically nothing. They have distinct enough personalities and character designs that it would be strange to kill them off so early. If anything, I feel like maybe Don/Gilda were introduced so someone non-random could die without needing to kill any of the main trio. edit: I wonder how the gently caress they're going to deal with the fact that Emma's leg is broken. That basically makes running impossible and I doubt any of those kids is strong enough to carry her.
