BravestOfTheLamps posted:Marx was in favour of industry though since it decimated the feudal-aristocratic world order. Of all the things to label a Stalin that's about the dumbest. He saw it as progress from the feudal-aristocratic world order. The general thesis of the Communist Manifesto is "yeah the new world is better than the old one but poo poo IS STILL hosed". Marx believed that the industrial system sucked the souls out of men. Being an industrial worker was a miserable, hopeless existence of constant repetition, living just above the poverty line, working by the clock and never finding anything fulfilling about what you're doing. He believed in the romantic idea of Hard Work as done by a expert craftsmen who creates something that is uniquely their own, not of sitting in a factory for 8 hours to earn slave wages assuming you don't die in a horrible accident. Marx saw it as a necessary step, though, that industrialization was the logical progression of things. It went without saying that basic quality of life advantages had emerged that affected everyone, but Marx felt that what the new system really did was clarify the division of classes. The difference between the proletariat and the bourgeoise was more obvious than it had ever been, and they now had the means to observe it and to fight it. In that sense he saw industrialization as progress. However, he still thought industrialization was damaging to humanity, accelerating it and being the one on top to reap the benefits like Stalin was hardly part of the blueprint of socialism that Marx laid out. quote:You have to understand, you can attack internet critics as long as you don't try to seem more educated or knowledgeable about criticism than them.

The Vosgian Beast posted:I found a similar problem with one of Kyle's videos once, and he came into the thread to acknowledge his mistake, explain why he made it, and say he would have to make sure to do better in the future. I'm guessing I wrongly assumed pointing out an objective error in research is okay if you don't act like an idiot and make it an attack on someone's character? Will not make this mistake in the future. Oh God, years of lurking, and this was the thread that finally broke me. Yes, it is I, the failed Socrates quoter. The irony in this video is that the fact checking was not mine, but my fact checker, which I pay someone to do. The fact that I said "wrote" instead of "allegedly quoted by Plato" was my mistake, not hers, because putting together comprehensive videos like this on a deadline is difficult, and even with multiple eyes on the thing, poo poo still falls through the cracks. Mea culpa. But yeah, you are kind of being an rear end in a top hat. Because here is the thing, even with professional fact checkers, even if you are working for the New York Times or Washington Post or Vox (which I have, by the by), poo poo still falls through the cracks. This isn't an excuse, it's just reality. And honestly, I'm loving sick of people acting like I'm stupid or cut-rate or like I'm just not loving trying because of one slight misattribution with the budget and timeline I have. Because (for gently caress's sake) I said "wrote" instead of "was attributed as saying". My assistant found the translation, I used the word "wrote", a mountain of nonsense have I gotten from this molehill of word choice. You try never making any mistakes with the timeline I have and a staff of two plus the occasional freelancer when I have graphic work that needs doing. And yes, I have been poorly lurking in this thread and its progenitor for years. Honestly the original intent was just to complain about Spoony with everyone else, because I actually knew the man and got hosed over by him in real time. I have a lot of anger at my (former) colleagues and I need to vent it somewhere. But at this point I honestly don't give a poo poo. Y'all have a party with my post history. Congrats, Vosgian Beast, you have finally broken me. I salute you. Because it's poo poo like this that makes me wonder - why do I even loving bother? I could be like Cinema Sins over here and just say whatever and have a million subscibers. I don't need paid researchers, I don't need fact checkers, because I will always gently caress something up, and there will always be That Guy out there who will never let it go (looking at you, various other posters who will not let go of the WEIRDEST poo poo - seriously, did I gently caress your sister or something?) The hyperfocus on the minor mistakes honestly does make me wonder why I even loving bother. This is the age of Trump - we can just say whatever. Hell, I could, and I'd probably get more money. So, really, why bother being factual? Why. loving. bother. Not that I'm bitter or anything.

As far as I can gather, most people around here like your videos. Even the Socrates quoter seemed to enjoy them. As far as I'm concerned, the only complaint I have about Loose Canon is that sometimes I feel a few obvious versions are omitted, which is much more a matter of taste and preferences that any actual flaw with the videos. I always viewed this thread as a place where fan-people go to watch/listen to creator people dish on the reality of being a Famous Internet Critic, and while I came and subscribed initially for stories about awful "film" shoots and general mismanagement horror stories about the leadership of Certain Associations of Critical Aficianados being Complete rear end at Corporate Affairs, I stayed subscribed because regulars and creators would consistently introduce me to great people I never would have bothered paying attention to otherwise. Kim, HBombz, Kyle (he does post here, right?), Infamous Sphere, even more recent stuff by Allison and Phelan-- I never would have bothered watching or getting back into if I didn't have a recommendation feed that I could trust. Youtube algorithms would have just kept sending me a bunch of gamergate trash, and there was no where else on the internet I would dare wade into in search of People Talking At Webcams for fear of dealing with tremendous amounts of poo poo. So, I'm sorry that ten bucks is not enough to make this a true refuge from the usual internet tendencies. I always felt that this thread devolved into rehashing old conversations when there were no creators around to keep it occupied, but that ultimately drives the creators away, so... well, "stay and rule with an iron fist" isn't really an option and it's no one's obligation to keep us continually distracted with new shiny objects. All of your presences are valued and appreciated, though, when you have the energy for it.
