Honestly I liked pushed Equipment better than pushed Vehicles, short of like... literal Skullclamp.

There is nothing wrong with good ol' Bonesplitter, but you don't see a whole lot of Sky Skiffs in standard because Copter and Heart of Kiran are slightly better. It isn't like there was an equipment in Mirrodin that was 2 mana, 1 to equip, equipped creature's base power is 3/3 and gains flying and loot when it attacks, or 4/4 flying vigilance.

Pushed has two very clear meanings: 1. A card that's so good that I, an idiot, can tell it's good. 2. A card that I, a baby, am sick of seeing.

Regionals in Minneapolis: Round 1 I lose to Grixis Delver when he spends games 1 and 3 5-for-1ing me. I took game 2 because he only managed to 1- or 2-for-1 me. Round 2 I beat Cheerios when he fails to go off repeatedly, and then gets stuck on 2 land game 2 on a hand with filtering. Ouch. Round 3 I lose to Grixis Delver even harder. Round 4 I lose to Burn because she has the topdecks and then I drop because I'm not gonna play for 6+ more hours to possibly get $50 assuming I don't face off vs Ad Nauseum or Grixis anything. 2-0-1'd a draft after though, that was alright. Sunday I traded my set of Puresteel Paladin for 12 apiece in credit to the store where I redraft and play modern for cash. Seems like okay value. As to meeting people in paper Magic; I got the job I have now because I got drunk and socialised with the right folks at FNM.

Were you relieved to have been offered a split, already being late for a prior engagement? Additionally, I have no idea which flight it was, event staff had difficulty locating me when reporting results. Tubgoat fucked around with this message at 04:41 on Feb 7, 2017 |

So I'm getting back into this game after a long break and was wondering what sets have the chase mythics nowadays? I know you're supposed to buy singles and all that, but who doesn't love cracking a pack every once in a while??

When did this happen?
|
# ? Feb 7, 2017 06:01 |
Hey guys, this is a super long shot but here goes. Back sometime in late 90s / early 00s I was a kid getting into mtg and this older kid traded me a counterfeit magic card. My memory is it was a "Halloween Goblin" and he got it from a magazine. Like it was a joke card on a page in an October issue he cut out and glued to a swamp or whatever. Anyway his wedding is coming up and I want to find the issue it came from and give it to him as part of gift. Seems like those magazines are cheapish on ebay, so I am not opposed to buying several to get right one. Anyone have any ideas which specific magazines I should be looking at? Dragons? Wizard? Thanks

Jabor was responding to mcmagic's post abut how it was too pushed for a colorless card, and without a black source it really is just a Terrain Elemental. But even though it's only useful in black decks, being technically colorless is still valuable because it means you don't need to have a black source on turn 2 to use it on turn 2.

In other news, I was somehow able to win a game playing Standard Cheerios even with my opponent taking out of Paradoxical Outcome on turn 3 with a Lost Legacy. I love playing that deck but against anything but GB/GW is can't handle.

Copycat also gets to just drop its combo into a four color shell of just whatever is the best cards.

I wonder how different Standard would be without Aether Hub.

Do you think people would complain if in future sets didn't contain dual(ish) type lands? I hear a lot of people complain that manabases are so greedy because you can splash for any colors but I wonder what a future standard rotation would look like if the sets contained only contained basics / colorless lands. I think people would then complain that two/three color decks would be not playable because you'd have to "luck" into drawing your second or third color to be able to even play your deck? Is there any kind of viable middle ground?
|
# ? Feb 7, 2017 15:23 |
|
There's plenty of viable middle ground. Nearly every standard pre-Khans with the notable exception of the LOR/ALA clusterfuck (which was even worse than Khans/BFZ in terms of 4-5 color bullshit) was great.
|
# ? Feb 7, 2017 15:28 |

I feel like "don't print two strong 5-color lands in the same block" ought to be a pretty reasonable constraint. I don't mind base-green decks that spend their early turns setting up their mana getting into four colors (like the 4C saheeli decks) but four-color aggro being a thing in standard is ludicrous.

80s James Hetfield posted:Do you think people would complain if in future sets didn't contain dual(ish) type lands? This comes up every now and then but the counterargument in the past is that dual lands sell packs, since lands are always useful pulls. Now that Masterpieces exist which can theoretically also get people to crack more packs, they might be able to get away with worse dual land cycles in future sets but just as many people will complain about their absence. What was the last dual land cycle to not see widespread play post-Standard? The Theros temples see some play in control/combo decks in Modern. Maybe the LOR cycle of tribal lands?

Make less multicolor producing lands that enter untapped. That's the solution. Reprint the scry lands instead, those were great and helpful for basically every deck
