Halfway through, I went to fix us both a coke float.
By the time I got back, he'd gone insane.
Plus, he'd left the gate open and there was evil everywhere.

I got to ride in one at an autocross about 10 years ago. Didn't realize it at the time but it was one of something like 15 that were imported to North America. The owner had it kitted out like a rally car too.

Based on the that experience I don't know if I'd want to DD one, could have been the way the owner had it configured but it felt like your options are to park it or constantly drive at 9+/10.

They're pretty durable, and all the bits are relatively simple and proven. The engine is effectively a 16 valve 2.0 version of the 2.3 turbo Lima from the Mustang/XR4Ti. They've very similar to the original Audi Quattro in that they're a proper homologation special. Underneath, they're actually the old Sierra platform, so while they look like an Escort, very few of the panels are actually the same as the cooking model.

It's hard to explain how influential the Cossie is here. It was the hero car if you grew up in the 90s, and to have one was similar to being able to say you had a Hemi in the 60s USA. In todays world of 200+bhp, factory-warranty Fiestas, it's hard to remember how much of a thug something like an Escort Cosworth was.

It's the 2.0 Pinto shortblock though, actually. Given the displacement potential on the Lima, that would have made the Cosworth YB even more monstrous.

I assumed if I said "Pinto", it might confuse people who associate that with the car model - over here, Pinto is the engine, nothing else. It isn't actually called the Pinto engine by Ford, but every single Ford guy calls it that, so they'll just have to lump it.

Yes, there were aftermarket kits to take the YB out to about a 2.4.

Right, but I mean, it's not the same engine family as the Lima, the YB isn't even the same bore spacing. And Millington advertises... well, sorta-YBs (I mean I know Millingtons are YB based but is it still a YB if every part is new?) up to 2.7, but still, another 4mm of bore spacing like the Lima would mean just that little bit more potential.

Yes, the American engine is different to the euro one, there's no parts commonality, they just happen to look very similar and have similar architecture. I said the Cosworth unit is effectively a 16v 2.0 version of the 2.3 turbo because it really is the closest thing you got in the states.
