The food centralization change will be amazingly good for everything. Slave species that farm for the masters, frontier colonies that don't spend 5 years being worthless trash due to having to prioritize food instead of those +sci tiles you actually wanted to work, blockading/invading a breadbasket and sending an empire into starvation and unrest.

EDIT: Actually, how will starvation work? Will it select random pops or will it just start starving in some kind of order?

Yeah I was curious about that. Starvation just stops growth and is a happiness penalty, maybe it will be empire wide? Also I wonder if blockades will effect the flow of food.

Mister Adequate posted:

The current estimation by the Strategic Collective is that the Imperium's mobilization would have to increase 500% to stand a realistic chance of resisting the full might of the Tyranids. That would entail every single living person in three of the five Segmentae. I want Prethoryn to be that dangerous and enduring a threat in Stellaris, requiring a total galactic mobilization to beat :black101:

Imagine if we get an expansion that lets multiple concurrent galaxies run in a single game once the game has several years worth of supporting DLC. Y'know, just do what most sci-fi series like Stargate and Mass Effect do and give the player/ai empires the option to have the game be about exploring all new galaxies once you're all set up in your home galaxy and want to set your sights further. Or to just find a new place to survive if poo poo goes south like in Mass Effect.

Sending an ark ship containing your species to a new galaxy only to discover that this galaxy was once filled with it's own vibrant empires only to be overrun and converted into infested planets, barren death worlds, and various solar debris from all the insane doomsday weapons getting deployed as every empire fought a grueling war and lost would be a pants making GBS threads moment. Especially if it was possible to trace back where the ark ship came from if the Prethoryn analyzed the debris.

Would really nail the whole "galactic horror" thing the Tyranids represent if a game goes really badly. Yeah, they're from another galaxy. And another galaxy. And another. They ate them all, and you just poked the goddamn bear by showing them there's more food out there. Who's ready for Starship Troopers 4: This Time It's the Apocalypse?

Edit: Also having multiple galaxies would open up a mod or expansion to counter-invade the Unbidden's home dimension like they're the Undine from Star Trek. Imagine all the crazy poo poo that you could discover and get up too with a whole different set of physics from an alternate reality to work off of.

Not that I ever expect anything like all that to happen, but yeah. There's my dream DLC.

There not being an individualist FE is no barrier to you making an individualist FE, you just need to insert your values into the FE template instead of the empire template.

Although thinking about it custom FEs probably won't generate special events either... I wonder if War in Heaven will work with them?

Anyway, I'm just gonna do the FE races as normal races for now.

Yeah, that was the other thing I was thinking about. I didn't want to make the post too much of a run on wank-off though.

Imagine some xenophobic empire showing up on your galaxy's doorstep and figuring that it's an end game crisis only to discover that oops, nope. It's just that they're basically galactic fanatical purifiers in all but name.

Edit: Also, a 1.5 checkbox to enable all disasters would be awesome provided there was some tech or policy that could mitigate an inevitable AI rebellion in your empire. Otherwise building synthetics would just be an eventual catastrophe.

I believe after you research the Synthetic Personality Matrix tech and can set AI rights to full citizens you may get an event that allows you to fully integrate synthetics into your society (which means you can't ever change that law) but also prevents your snyth POPs from revolting in the event of an AI rebellion. Pretty handy to have, though in all my play throughs I've yet to have an AI rebellion.

Seems like the Prethoryn Swarm is the 'go to' crisis with the Unbidden coming in a distant second.

In terms of frequency you mean, or enjoyability? I'm with you on the former, but I've seen their AI break so hard it's not even funny.

All I wanted to do was weaponize them by driving them before me, crippling their neighbors, and letting them purge all the filthy xenos for me without having to worry about truce timers but no, just keep flying your fleet into the same trap system on one side of my empire over and over again...

You forgot about your buildings blowing up too.

On average that crisis will result in you losing / having to rebuild every spaceport and one tile on every planet if I read the events right.

It's the most annoying.

AI rebellion is probably my least favourite crisis in that regard. It creates too much micromanagement and not really all that much crisis outside of dialogue panels.

It would be funny if they took over your fleets in a percentile dice roll on rebellion. Just started a civil war brawl within your deathblob that would leave you appropriately horrified.

In two separate games, the Unbidden spawned and got murdered by an AE within 10 years each time. Soo I've never actually had a proper end game experience yet. :(

Also learned that by around year 150 my computer just can't handle the game. I had to disable a bunch of stuff to get it to run. Kind of a huge pain in the rear end.

You can get the data for your custom race from "Documents/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris/user_empire_designs.txt"

Just put the whole mod on github and let everyone contribute through pull requests. It's a lot less work for you and keeps the thing alive even if you at some point get tired of it.

I forget if it's been asked - and/or answered - but is there any chance something will change so I don't aggro on every goddamn wormhole generator or mining station when I just want to conquer some rear end in a top hat? Chasing enemy fleets goes from "ok that's viable" to "this is a pain in the loving rear end" when my entire fleet slows to a crawl because there was an energy mine on their sun.

I think they've said that this has been fixed but we don't know a ton of details.

I am regular user of github for most of my stuff and this would, no joke, triple the amount of work I would have to do. It would also make it harder for other people to submit, and wouldnt make it any easier for someone else to take it over if I poof since doing that now is literally pressing two buttons and moving one file.

i used google docs with anonymous suggestions enabled for something like this on a design doc for rimworld mods i was considering. worked great. i'd get an email every time someone put something in and i'd have to click literally one button to either accept or reject and that was it.

e: i mean obviously do whatever you please, i'm not the target audience here because my stellaris games are basically universally humans clowning on fool aliens in some way or another, but it may make things easier.

Do not do this.

I think I'm going to be messing around with Spiritualists/Psionics for the first time in 1.5.

This is some of the coolest stuff I've seen in the game, and I hope the other paths have equally cool things going on.

Also, I've found...not sure it's quite a bug, but it's definitely a quirk that might gently caress my achievement run. I used gene engineering to add Strong and Rapid Breeders to my species, and went 'select all' on the pops to modify screen. This ended up being a mammoth project (I think it was like 600-700 months) but I did it anyway because I was really sick of the lack of population problem, and to give me the edge I wanted in ground combat.

The humans that were born while that gene tailoring process continued were not included in the project, which I didn't notice until much later. Now I have ~760 pops that are enhanced, but another 230 that are not. And the unenhanced humans are still considered my founding species.

I'm currently undertaking a followup project to enhance the rest of my race. If I enhance all the humans, will they be subsumed properly and become my founding race?
update on this:

i finished catching up the rest of humanity to my stronger, faster-breeding version of itself and everything was indeed properly and correctly subsumed into my founding race, which now is more populous than the next 4 species in the galaxy combined.

i finished liberating the poo poo out of the AE so next time i play i'll be gobbling up all the various powers i liberated away from them into my empire. then at that point i'll probably start thinking about how to butcher a lot of the xenos because jfc i'm gonna own half of the galaxy here very soon and EVERYONE is evaluating as pathetic to me now.

The thing about words is that meanings can twist just like a snake, and if you want to find snakes, look for them behind words that have changed their meaning.

I STILL have never had Horizon Signal fire so I'm glad to see the malign influence of Fallen London Guy spreading.

This is the Captain...

Our glorious political masters have, in their wisdom, decided to form an alliance with a rag-tag bunch of freedom fighters right when the Federation has us at a tactical disadvantage. Unsurprisingly, this has resulted in the Feds firing on our vessels...

Damn you Huxley!

Seemingly, they've taken the really dark note from Horizon Signal and just ran with it. I am so hyped right now. Apocalyptic magic geckos are a go.

I hope these kind of events result in something a bit meatier than the current batch of endgame crises in terms of threat. I can't imagine the Swarm or Unbidden actually taking over the galaxy unless you just sit back and allow it to happen (and that's assuming there are no Awakened Ascendancies around to stop them for you).
