Alwa's awakening is a cute little metroidvania that's more on the puzzle/platformer side of the genre. It's a bit short, but absolutely worth playing if you don't mind paying :10bux: for a game that's only 5h long.

If it wasn't spiders it'd be another creepy crawly like cockroaches or millipedes.

Or they'd use lampreys and freak out everybody.

So in Bayonetta's battle theme that plays during the whole game there's a part where the singer goes "sadness lies in your smile." Why is Bayonetta sad????? I'm 10 levels in and so far she's just a womanchild who kills things and rides bikes.

Game is good so far, but I'm not a fan of anything outside the combat. I last tried playing it two years ago and the bosses are still a mess of particle effects and camera shaking that make it hard to see what's going on.

Maybe she's sad because she can only wear clothes made of her own magic hair.

Bayonetta was weird.

We had a tarantula living in a recess of the shower when I was a kid that would poke itself out whenever anyone went in to bathe. Must have been the size of my hand.

Very cute.

Where you at, here it's peacefully snowing gently down with a light powdering on everything, poorly foreshadowing the 18 inches we're supposed to get by tonight

That is pretty cool. Tarantulas are harmless so I can see why nobody freaked out. Like they can bite sure but almost none of them have any significant venom to them

Other animal visitors from my childhood: a fairly sizeable boa constrictor that coiled itself around the banister above my bunkbed (I was top bunk, ofc), and a small colony of bats living in the toolshed. :3:

Don't some species of tarantula have that ability to fling their barbed leg hairs and if they get in your eye they can be extremely difficult to get out?

There is a James Bond movie with Sean Connery that has a scene where a tarantula is released into Bond's bedroom, and it's treated like a very intense and suspenseful moment. So obviously tarantulas are crazy dangerous, otherwise the scene wouldn't make sense!

Would people still be afraid of spiders if they were the half spider half topless woman you see in video games (i can only think of one example but I think there are lots)

What are you even booing here?

I did not like those spiders in Resident Evil 2, especially because it made more sense to run by them than kill them and waste the ammo so you constantly had to just book at as soon as the room loaded while their legs made those terrible noises and they vomited poison everywhere. Jesus Christ.

Yeah, they changed that from the novel where it was a centipede.

I think there would be a lot more people scared of them if they had knives and shotguns on their feet, though.

I mean, if it were real life and I was just me, I probably still would be. If I were the dark souls protagonist however, I would be less frightened.

Things in games that scared me when I was little:

The ending sequence to Super Metroid
The final area/boss fight of Earthbound
Treasures of the Deep and the Dreamcast Ecco, because freaky undersea monsters and bad draw distances don't mix for me.

I always got way too stressed over things with time limits or escort quests when I was younger. Really got to me.

Even when I was going to play Fallout 1 when I was 15 I was worried because of the day limits to find the water chip and then beat the mutants.

I'm not sure if that's the worse of the two situations, though. I remember trudging to school after a particularly bad snowstorm, only to find out when I got there that school was closed. They sent me back home and I was pissed that I made the trip for nothing. Same deal now that I'm older. I wouldn't want to go into work and then be immediately sent back (especially if I was on hourly wages, not sure what your deal is).

Same, bud.

I am working on an lp update and pretending that's the same as working.

So I started the playstation now free trial and after poking around some not very good games, I've settled on a not very good game that's still oddly compelling. Rune Factory: Tides of Destiny is bad but I'm still having fun and I don't know what to do about it. This is a bad game. The user interface is by and large total poo poo, important aspects of gameplay aren't explained, the intro to the game is like a half hour tour of the main town and it's excruciatingly dull, the dungeons are grindy mazes, the farming minigame is almost totally RNG, and I don't know why I'm still playing this poo poo, please send help.
