Ban all coaches, instead players show up an 30 minutes before puck drop (except that one guy who always shows up late and doesn't hit the ice until after the game starts) to get dressed then go out and play some hockey.

Not like coaches do anything except yell at people when they mess up, who needs that stress?

30 minutes? maybe 5 minutes

The team is not as bad as it's made out to be. Galchenyuk and Danault look like decent top 6 centers, Gallagher, Radulov and Pachioretty are definitely top-6 wingers. The third line is pretty good for a third line, even if Shaw does like taking poorly timed penalties. The fourth line is massively underrated (even if it is very streaky). The individual D-men are good although their pairings leave a lot to be desired (especially Weber-Emelin, my god that pylon fest is sickening).

It's no the Pens team he failed with, but it's not as bad as it's often made out to be.

I was being a bit hyperbolic by calling it poo poo but compared to the rest of the playoff teams their depth is nothing special. It's enough to win with given they have the best goalie in the world.

Also not sure why anyone would mock Therrien for failing in 08. That Red Wings team was arguably the best Cup winning team of the post 05-06 era. I'd put that team against any Cup winning team since then and favor them. Therrien also had Maf playing at a 930 save percentage that year (he would have won the Conn Smythe, lol) which is a loving miracle. He's got some big flaws as a coach but I don't think he's anywhere near as bad as people think.

The possession numbers are north of 50 in 5v5 all situations, but they drop like a rock once you adjust for leading by at least one. It's really irritating to see them lay off the pressure in the third, and even Capuano got a ton of poo poo for that.
Of the 30 teams Montreal is ranked 6th in possession when tied and 4th when leading. They experience the same drop that every single team does.

I'm guessing it's a reference to 2008/09 when he was leading a Penguins team with fully healthy Crosby and Malkin to well out of the playoff picture before being fired.

It's about finding that next group of core players we can win with in the next 6, 8, 10 years. Let's face it, it's hard for 20-, 21-, 22-year-olds to lead an NHL team. Look at the playoffs.

I mean, people saying HAS is complaining about Therrien too much aren't entirely wrong.
There are worse coaches in the NHL. But they're almost universally coaching significantly worse teams. The only real competition is Hakstol and that's a pretty tight race.

But the difference is Therrien has been in for years and while he's not as bad as he was two years ago he's still bad and clearly doesn't get the players he has.

The difference between a really good coach and a really bad coach is marginal, there are no miracle workers and you can win a Cup with Randy Carlyle, I saw it happen.

Bump it up to 2+ and theyre the #2 team in the league, and are actually 1.2 points better than they are tied. The sum total of all of this is; a bunch of noise.

Coach talk, eh? Hitchcock in Columbus was the victim of ownership being too drat stupid to fire Howson instead, but I liked him. I have no good lasting impression of Arniel and he should've been fired 20 games before he was. I liked Richards save for his chronic inability to get a decent start to the season, with achieving the literal worst possible start to the season scenario being his undoing.

I like Babcock I just don't understand his love of the current D corp. Corrado isn't great but I didn't think they gave him a fair look before waiving him. Marchenko isn't playing tonight because...??? But otherwise I'm pretty happy with Babcock. Team is fun to watch and even the year when they were broken pieces held together with duct tape they still competed really hard.

"I like him but what's up with [lineup decisions X, Y and Z]" is pretty standard Babcock operating procedure.

the flyers probably shouldn't be wanting to make the playoffs this season anyway because they're a guaranteed first round exit team but if they miss they at least get a chance at winning the lottery for a top 3 pick

In the big picture Hexy doesn't care much about making the playoffs at this point. It's one of those "nice if it happens, but..." things. They're still shedding bad contracts and bringing up more young guns.
