Honestly, for my first dealership experience it wasn't so awful, then again it was a small used car lot and the price was right. Hell, they even changed all the fluids and topped off the washer tank.

Those first gear launches though... It's like the transmission is begging for the engine to have more horsepower.

This is how goddamn hot the car interior got - the toolset I have was under the seat AND wrapped up. The spanner I grabbed out burnt my hand and I had to pour water on it before it got usable. Also found out the Liberty's cooling system cant handle driving up the mountains even at relaxed speed with this kind of temperature, it kept threatening to have a meltdown.

Not exactly unique, there are dead cars that are newer everywhere. gently caress. This.

I don't know if you're doing anything to mitigate the heat, but vent visors, a sun shield and tint makes a huge difference inside the car. Requirement in Florida.

Well, they aren't actively bad, but I can't say I'd recommend one.

Applebees Appetizer posted:

I thought about getting one, someone local had a Tribute for sale really cheap, but I just didn't like the way it drove. Shifted like a Ford Ranger and felt top heavy, small suv's in general just ride like poo poo if you're used to cars.
I've driven a 4-pot manual Tribute. It was pretty rubbish, and the 4wd system didn't seem anything special in snow etc.

Like many crossovers/small SUVs, you're far better off buying an estate or large hatchback unless you need the extra ground clearance.

Usually when you get tarmac melting days the humidity is low as gently caress.... noooope not this year. Humid AND 40+C is just....... gently caress that. Also really unusual there's been gently caress all afternoon storms, the one or two we have had have been 50mm in an hour deluges. So thats causing allsorts of fun like temperature inversions where the mountains are stinking hot at night and absolutly nothing is cooling down. I have never seen 30+C at 5 am but this year there's been a few of them with 36C being the real mind gently caress. Seriously, 36 loving celcius at 430am. Thence high temps and high humidity witht he atmosphere simply not releasing any of it.

The thing that is going to be amazing tho is when the heat finally starts to dissipate the atmosphere is going to have a shitload of water in it. March is when we typically get the most rain and I suspect this year might well be epic... there is a godawful amount of potential for rain once the atmosphere begins to lose the ability to trap it.

Also pissing me off that I cant ride. There is just simply no way you can ride with road temps this high, you become dehydrated far too fast and cant cool off

My dad really likes his: he's been looking for a replacement because it's getting tired and he can't find anything he likes

Not least because he really likes the good rear visibility and these days, everyone has gone for chunky C pillars and tiny windows.

I lucked out when I found the Courier. Listing had next to no info and the seller didn't seem interested to sell it based on lack of communication. Ended up being the long bed version in pretty good shape for it's age/miles. Have had a few offers on it so I may end up selling it in a couple months since I don't use it more than a once a week or so. I'm stupidly considering picking up a 2wd toyota pickup with the 22R since I have an acme adapters kit in the shed to fit a VW TDI engine into one of those.

In great news the 928 sold last night. Guy did a quick look around and test drive last weekend then had to scrounge up some cash or something so he bought it last night. When I was describing some of the fun electrical gremlins he laughed and said it wasn't an issue. He recently bought an old Jaguar XK6 and a Fiat Spider which both have amazingly British electrical systems.

From what I've found a sun shield actually helps the most. Vent Visors help the heat escape, and all three together makes the interior much cooler allowing the a/c to cool it off completely almost instantly. If you already have tint spend a couple extra bucks and you'll wonder why you didn't do it sooner.

That being said, Vent Visors only work on framed windows so with your Subarus you're SOL on that one.

Regarding the clutch I posted about earlier in the thread - I've got to say, AP Racing are bloody good. I've had some email conversations with one of their engineers, taken it down to have a chat with him, and he's going to assess the pressure plate for surface condition and clamp load to give an definite answer on it, plus sort out a rebuild/refurb on the 6-paddle driven plate.

Very refreshing to actually be able to discuss stuff properly with an actual technical person rather than having generic script-based responses from someone.

Anyone here heard of or used riken tires before? I noticed them on tire rack and they're cheap as hell which worries me, but all the reviews I can find so far are basicly saying its what it appears to be. A cheap tire that isn't anything special, but doesn't have any glaring flaws, doesn't try to kill you in the wet, doesn't wear too quickly amd doesn't ride harsh. The company was apparently a japanese owned company that was bought out by michelin (gently caress remembering how to spell today) in 1992. For $250 for a set of 4, thats damned tempting to run them for a year to see what they're like.

Edit: And its going on the wagon, so its not like it needs to be some super high precision track tire that'll grip to the moon. It ain't going autocrossing, its going around the corner to work.

I've got a set on my FC RX-7 (stock 15" size. 205/60-15, I think.) They're fine. Mine a dry-rotting a bit, but that's because I rarely drive it. Grip is not awesome, but adequate, even with them a little crispy. I can get the rear to slide if I try, but it's generally well-behaved. Wet grip seems fine. I don't have my records here at work, so I can't comment on tread-life quantitatively, but they don't seem to be wearing unduly.
