Chromatic posted:I'm 4 songs in and completely in love already. Why in the hell did I not listen to this album sooner? Great riffs, soothing yet punchy atmospheres, it's catchy, and it flows well. I really adore the way this album has a way to lay back and let a killer riff take the forefront instead of the way a lot of bands do it these days and try to cram lyrics in every place they can. If you're a fan of Swano's clean vocals and enjoy prog rock you should check out the Nightingale album "Nightfall Overture", since it's probably the pinnacle of his clean singing. It's pretty amazing to hear how his voice evolved from The Breathing Shadow (1995 horrendous) to Nightfall Overture (2005, awesome). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mZP_sGFTnbw He also does some clean singing on the Witherscape albums but it's more aggressive. Witherscape is basically the Moontower 2/Crimson 3 that we'll never get.

I just discovered Blood Ceremony, and I demand to know why no one has made me listen to this poo poo earlier because holy poo poo this band owns. I've listened to their last three albums several times each since yesterday now and I can't quite pick a favourite because they're all so good. The s/t wasn't bad either but didn't quite do it for me like the rest.

Yeah I very much appreciate the folky vibe that pops up in a lot of their songs. And they're great at both tasty crunchy riffs and mellow, atmospheric parts, and their level doominess is just perfect for my taste. Absolutely one of the better discoveries I've made in recent years.

Picked up Cynic - Uroboric Forms demo collection. It's drat impressed how it takes just 4 years to go from their first teenage demo to songs that would be on Focus. I'm not one for hunting down demos, so I've never hear these recordings before. Always been a big fan of Cynic since a first heard Focus as a teenager. The remastering job is really spot on - the '88 and '89 demos sounds punch while still being raw. They're a bit more for major fans/collectors but it you like that early melting pot of thrash, hardcore and the shifts to more extreme genres, they're good songs. The '90 and '91 demos are the big draws of course, as the band let's rip with awesome tech death/thrash at full power. The sound is great and everyone is on top form. It's far more ripping than Focus, with no synths or similar trappings (though I love both styles). The 6 tracks of the '90/'91 make it a worthy purchase if you love early years of techy extreme metal.
