Olympic Mathlete posted:Are bike engines just inherently higher strung? I still want a 250 to piss about on. Yes, in general. A modern car engine will easily go 150,000 miles without any major maintenance, just fluids and spark plugs. An average motorcycle engine will start to need a top-end rebuild around 50,000 miles, with shorter intervals for higher-strung engines or racing models. A competition dirt bike will usually specify an oil change after every four hours of running and a top-end rebuild (new piston, rings and valves) after 50. This is just the tradeoff for getting tremendous power-to-displacement figures. That little CBR250RR makes about 40 horsepower from 0.25L with no forced induction. That's 160 horsepower per litre of displacement in a $3000 motorcycle from 1993. For contrast, a 2015 Ferrari 458 only makes about 120hp/L, and that's a $250,000 car with twenty years of extra engine development. Vrrrrrrreeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee Frozen Pizza Party posted:If it's over 25 I thought you could reg them, I've deffo seen youtubes of plated CA CBR250RR's Yeah, they're just hitting the 25-year federal limit right now. However, they are banned entirely in California by CARB, which is impossibly stupid because in 1993 there were no motorcycle emissions controls in CA and motorcycles still don't have to be smog-tested in CA no matter how new they are. But CARB literally just says "no motorcycle can be converted to be California emissions-compliant" so you are poo poo out of luck. And that's terrible car stuff right there. If you've seen one with a California plate, it's either just outright illegal (someone took it off their other bike) or they did a shady thing and somehow pretended it was a recent-model CBR250R (not RR). Either one of those will get the bike impounded and crushed if you're found out. The best strategy seems to be to get a P.O. box in Montana and register the bike there. e: lol, reading that description on the Japanese importer's site I forgot that it's a 16v engine. Dual-overhead-cam, 16 valves the size of golf tees, pistons the size of an oreo, displaces two-thirds of a soda can. so awesome Sagebrush fucked around with this message at 00:11 on Feb 9, 2017 |

And an RGV 250 makes 62 horsepower from 0.25L, or about 69 when you cut open the air box and make a few modifications. But yeah, you'll have the head off a lot to replace poo poo.

Here in Queensland I have for the netter part of 15 years thought that all could ride was a 150cc on my learners licence that I've held for about the same time period. I always rode on private land on dirtbikes so was never interested in really getting a better licence after a few near misses. Fastforward to last week when my boss mentions that he is going for his bike test to be legal. The guy has a +1000cc and has ridden it daily for a few years. He mentioned something about 650cc being the new learners and if you have held an RE restricted licence for X years you can just go balls out up to 650cc (with a few exceptions). That prick just signed my death notice as now I'm wanting to get a bike for road use. Queensland logic of 150cc being max (why I knew straight away of the NSR150SP I posted earlier) and changing to 650cc boggles me. I'll apparently be on a form of P plate but can't see any requirements to need an open licence riding with me or showing P plates showing I'm Provisional. Happy days. For some terrible car stuff: I've posted photos of the new Now it's gone too far! My beloved VE Sportswagon has gone from: To this: I'm a sad tragic though. The VE was the last of them that I liked. Up to 250cc there's only a few bikes that aren't on the list but after that options tighten quite a bit. I think between the 2 it comes down to power to weight ratio so most of the proper sports bikes are off the cards. You could always do what my idiotic 6"5 brother in law did and by a KTM road bike several sizes too small then complain about it. I think he's moved onto a Honda of some description but dunno what the model is cause I choose not to have much to do with the bloke.

I think it looks good, but FWD and no V8 is a crime (because it means we don't get another RWD-V8 sedan/wagon in the US, either.) Looks like we will be getting a version of the Insignia as well, though, in Buick form, including the wagon. Ironically enough, Hyundai and Kia both have RWD V8 sedans, and Kia is about to have a sports sedan, albeit not V8: http://www.kia.com/us/en/content/vehicles/upcoming-vehicles/2018-stinger

Different tastes etc. It looks NICE, but it seems 'wrong' for Holden as a brand these days. Funnily enough I have footage from the owner of HDT saying that car is a piece of poo poo, meanwhile the wheels he put on his 100k+ cars look like this: I went to the last ever 'Peter Brock' Museum day by HDT and it was awesome. It was an invite only affair and you had to have bought one of his creations and drive it there, all were over 100k. I got access for a few reasons too complicated to explain (business relationship and copyright over certain livery) and rocked up in a busted old VY Commy ex-cop car.
