It is hosed up. But its the same old line they've been using all along. Its just that its happening so frequently and in unexpected places right now, so they're using it a lot and pretty recklessly. So yeah, its loving bonkers that a politician called his own constituents children at a town hall or paid agitators. But they're just so shaken and off balance that they don't know what to do with it and are using the same attacks against their constituents that they used to use to turn their constituents against others.

Its super messy and sloppy but a big part of that is that little cons and tricks like "paid agitators" only work in certain situations and if you start calling EVERYONE that then eventually people start to see it for what it is.

Yeah this makes sense. I've just never seen it so blatant, Trump was one thing but a House rep accusing people of getting paid to visit loving Utah to boo him is a whole new level of :stare:

In my home town a brewery opened up in the past few years, it attracted some decent business but there were only a few restaurants nearby. So they floated the idea of licensing food trucks, but the local pizza joint protested heavily. Thing is, it could only seat and serve so many, so the overflow didn't translate into increased sales, and when the veneer of the new brewery died off nobody was really better off for all the fuss.

What I'm saying is that jackass probably voted for Trump.

For what it's worth, I don't think the Courts have a strong way to strike back at Trump if he decides to test out just throwing EOs at them that all do the same thing in different ways/wordings, especially if they take 15 minutes and consult a lawyer or two to give them at least some basic legal backing. The Court might've shown it had enough guts to threaten Contempt when DHS wasn't abiding by the hold before, but it'd be another matter entirely if they put Trump in Contempt for filling their inbox with obvious junk EOs meant to overwhelm the system. Even if it's within their legal power, it'd take considerable guts to charge the President under those circumstances, and half of Trump's shtick is brinksmanship.

Maybe, but that seems like the sort of thing that would create a major media narrative and start to speed up the whole "I word" talk. Like, its one thing for Paul Ryan to pretend he doesn't know who Donald Trump is and he never watches the news but if the President is literally spamming the same EO over and over in a blatant effort to subvert the judicial branch.... well, gently caress, Congress is going to have hearings for a Supreme Court nominee at some point of this and it seems like it would come up then.

Same. The Judiciary is pretty good about dropping the hammer on people who refuse their authority, but this is the first time 200 years its been done by the president.

clearly the solution is to announce that its open season on any LEO's who carry out illegal eos :unsmigghh:

good thing most of the people protesting happen to be white but they have trouble firing at arabs during any armed conflict and the navy spends 30 minutes of target IDing when it comes to fighting pirates

most troops still have trouble shooting people until they're shot at, surely they'll mow down unarmed protesters with glee *corncobs*

I don't disagree but that seems like the sort of thing that could force them into having to deal with some of this stuff. Like, if Gorusch is in Congress condemning Trump's behavior towards judges as a response to a Democrat's questions then poo poo potentially hits the fan.
