Is this a WWE situation where they keep the writing staff purposely lovely and insular because they know they can just coast on the core fans? I really think it's a combination of running out of fresh ideas for the same group of characters after decades, and trying to follow family guy wacky humor trends. If my quick googling is correct the simpsons is literally the longest lasting show on TV other than news programs. The well is freakin' dried up, I think.

Yes, and he gave a detailed reply, but the video of the interview is gone now. Basically there are two elements to the gag. One is that this primetime expensive airtime that advertisers are paying for is being used in this ridiculous way especially with (in Seth MacFarlane's opinion) such an uncharismatic performer as Conway Twitty. The other element is that a joke like this (also the hurt knee, chicken fight, Bird is the Word) is that it follows a formula of really funny-horrible-hilarious. First the audience laughs, then they don't, then they hate it, then they once again think it's fun and even funnier than at first. It has to be followed through with completely. http://movies.stackexchange.com/questions/2403/why-has-conway-twitty-appeared-as-a-distraction-in-family-guy (second answer)

Wizard Master posted:Some more goofs and gags from recent years I'd site the episode with "Helicopter Homer" as one of the decent ones from recent years, kind of a riff on the subject of "helicopter parenting." That fart one, though... that should have gone on the "lowest moment" top five. I felt something ugly in the pit of my stomach when I saw that for the first time and realized they were literally doing ten straight minutes of fart jokes in a Simpsons episode.

Every now and then I've caught a more recent episode and while some jokes still land, a lot of them just seem to go on too long and feature too heavily on guest stars. Also, do they no longer make reference to any specifics regarding Grandpa or Skinner's war service because it would 'age' them too much? I used to love bits about Skinner's Vietnam stories/flashbacks, but in an episode I caught (focusing on Chalmers of all characters) he only made a brief mention of having lopsided shoulders from being a POW. E: anyone have a YouTube compilation of his old Nam flashbacks?

Watched Bart Gets an F last night for the first time since it aired and even if it's not a prime Simpsons episode it was great to see a kid acting like a kid whilst there were also still jokes and funny cutaways in the form of his imaginings. Then there's funny character moments like Homer sobbing at the end of a giant monkey film and Otto bragging that he failed school and now drives the bus.

Ha ha ha, of course we do. *shows ambiguously gay things* As you can see, the real deal with Waylon Smithers is that he's Mr. Burns' assistant. He's in his early 40s, is unmarried, and currently resides in Springfield. Thanks for writing! We'll be right back.
