Yeah, I think that Citizen, Fuzzy Modem is having plenty of interesting and unique things happen these days. I'm sure he is rapped that 2.6.1 has been release and the toilet can now be accessed. Some of his new 'friends' might be helping him theory craft ship to ship docking.

"Rapped" is not how you spell that word.

Oh.

Okay, it's close enough.

Chris Roberts said here is a sweet ambush point.

Have the AI bark the audio that Chris Roberts approved.

Chris Roberts thinks this is laid out to be a memorable encounter.

Over a decade ago I played FEAR and I had some memorable encounters. Like killing most of a group of soldiers, and listening to their leader telling the last man to go attack me. He responded with "gently caress you, Sir!" or something in that line. That was memorable.

Meanwhile, in Star Citizen, a commando clips through a floor and the game crashes. Memorable, but in another way.

Think about it... it's beyond all question now that they knew at the time there was no way the "Squadron 42 demo" was days away from release. If they had anything that close to being ready they'd have put it out to quiet the whales and give them a much needed confidence boost. Which means that the whole Road to CitizenCon was a ~*metacon *~ itself. It was all staged! There were no last hour meetings deciding they couldn't make it, there was never a question of it being ready! They probably filmed it all in a day.

Maybe they filmed it after the fact? :ohdear:

I like how it went from "essential piece of development and all assets go directly into the real game so no dev time wasted" to "It would be a waste taking us away from real development to finish it"

Well the first claim was September Chris and the corrected one was December Chris. Clearly they're both correct in the context of their relative existence, but choosing to believe the latter is obviously more virtuous.

Thinking about the server compute resources to do this in an MMO ... it should be interesting to see what they try.

I think you did a good job. You weren't able to create fidelity but that's okay. FEAR was the first PC game I bought when I built my first PC and I recall one of the enemy troopers in the beginning kicking office furniture over to create cover and crawling behind it.

I'm totally clueless when it comes to network poo poo, so I need this explained to me.

Is there any logic behind the way that sc's client downloader cripples your network, or is it plain lovely amateur stuff?

What does your heart tell you?

Torrents work on the basis of asking lots of endpoints for individual chunks of whatever you're after, and if there are a lot of clients, you usually want to throttle the number and frequency of streams, or they'll multiply to fill available bandwidth (and usually CPU/Southbridge). In the worst cases, it can flatten the TCP/IP stack by not being able to send out chunk acknowledgements.

In short, Torrents tend to saturate, but MOST people using them have figured to throttle down to a decent level that balances being able to use the machine and download whatever.

edit: And that it's still doing this poo poo after years really speaks to the quality of the software.
