My only experience with Uber was in San Francisco where it was great. The fact that Vancouver is still banning it probably means it's better than taxis, which are prohibitively expensive and try to do things like bullying my wife into paying with cash - even driving her to an ATM in the middle of the night against her will.

Not sure but those prices don't look great. $30usd on tmobile gets you unlimited calling and texting and 2gb data for 20 days I think.

Public is $20cad for talk/text/250mb for 10 days.

Maybe if they offered more data

I've used it once or twice. Service in the US in my experience is generally awful compared to the reception I get in Canada. Public mobile roaming was pretty much the same as any other SIM I've used in the US. It worked but I think the American carriers need to invest in their infrastructure far more than they do. (I might be wrong since I have limited experience and maybe the locations I've been are uniquely bad)

(Re:uberchat, ber have some pretty despicable business practices, but then so do the cabbies in Vancouver. I think ideally we'd have an uber-like service where they actually paid taxes and followed regulations, and didn't order fake rides on competing services to try to put them out of business)

Services like Roam Like Home are totally worth the fee imo, over things like how Wind offers US roaming.

Correct! I don't know anyone personally who is against the whole concept of ridesharing services, just what Uber specifically does.

Exactly the same as Telus and Koodo. All three share a network. I believe it's technically possible for a carrier to prioritize customers on different brands but I've never noticed this happening.

We've been bordering that point for a while more or less, depending on the deal you can get down south.

Considering their response to outrageous roaming fees is ":qq: we don't make any profit, honest. we're just passing the cost onto you" I expect them to be ":qq: they strong armed us into those rates and you're destroying Canada by taking advantage of it."

Any word on nougat for this piece of poo poo S7? Apparently there's a 10% battery life drop to look forward to. I want my loving Sony compact back so bad.

And why do you all hate Uber? It's fuckin 2.3 million dollars to go 5 feet here in Newfoundland and all the cabbies are up against it here too. I used to live honestly 1-2 minutes from the airport, grabbed a cab home from a flight once, ride was $13 which was already ridiculous. I hand over a 20 and say $5 change is good, "actually" the guy says and points to a sign on the dash that they add a $5 charge to resedential addresses from the airport for previously unexplained reasons. loving rogues.

Uber is run by a insane Libertarian fuckwad who's current goal is to litigate and use cheap "Contractor" slave labor to drive everyone else out of business to create a monopoly. Once they reach this point they will switch to self-driving cars and employ nobody as well.

Furthermore, since the drivers aren't employees of Uber, if something happens in the car - death, dismemberment, etc- Uber may not be liable in a court, leaving you to sue only the driver who probably has no money anyway, instead of the multinational company that generates millions of dollars of revenue.

The cars are also not insured as taxis, so good luck getting anything from the insurance company.

People are against Uber, not ridesharing in general, false equivalency. Uber is scummy evil pieces of poo poo, but we do need a better system than taxis. I've heard Lyft is a lot less lovely? I used them in the states and it worked great.

Buy an unlock code on eBay or compare their prices to any of the "canada cell unlock" sites, they are infinite. All of these options appear sketchy but they're not. Usually it's around $5. Someone is going to post their fav site for this moments after this reply I'm sure.

What IS the deal with unlocking phones? I understand why carriers would want to lock customers to their network, but how do these sketch town websites get a hold of legit unlock codes and what's stopping the average person from just doing it themselves?

Its a program (or multiple ones) that understands the algorithm to generate the code from the phone's IMEI, like keygens are for software. The average person would have to pay for one, I've seen them being sold for several hundred dollars. Giving these away would cost all these businesses a lot of money, they're too profitable to give away even at $5 per customer and the people reverse-engineering the software on phones to figure them out work too hard to give it away.
