it was originally $50, but they've been upping it the last few phone releases. i think they realized people were intentionally busting their phones right around launch of a new one so they can sell a pristine one. that said, i think the replacement costs still stick with whatever was the case when the specific phone was launched, so an se might be $80, rather than $100, but still not worth it.

they've made it worse every year when it came out with the 5 it was $99 + $49 to get a replacement then $99 + $79 now $99 + $99 for the se/older phones and $129 + $99 for the current and second most recent model phones lmao screen repairs are "only" $29 if you have it but you still paid that $99/$129 up front so unless you plan on busting your screen multiple times in 2 years it's not worth it a screen replacement is $129-$149 in store

I've been pretty lucky with my AppleCare then. My 3GS had a radio chipset failure that they replaced at 20mo in for no cost and my 5 had the power button failure around the same time, no charge. Would have been screwed without it both times.

applecare does extend your warranty for another year, so if your battery shits itself, you can get a free replacement, but still not worth $99 unless you're fastballing your phone every other week while burning through battery
