Just be under 1000 km/s when you hit the ring and you'll drop like any other normal supercruise drop.

Works perfectly with enemy ships, black holes, stations, belts — less so with neutron stars.
On that front, 30 more down, about 100 to go… Is there a pill you can get against discovery-credit-magpie-OCD?

Also, I've noticed that these things do some pretty odd stuff with how the terraforming potentials of planets are calculated. Take this system, for instance. The red dwarf sits some 50kLs away from the neutron star; its planets sit at anywhere from 300–4,000 Ls away. Of all the planets in the system, only three are not candidates for terraforming: the gas giant (duh), the lava planet (also duh), and the one that sits within what would normally be the goldilocks-zone for an M-class. Even the planet without atmosphere is somehow a candidate. I've seen this behaviour crop up in numerous neutron systems, for some reason. I think Stellar Forge might be a bit drunk…

For 360/XB1/DS4 controller settings, I just use "default context" or something like that, one of the presets. Whenever you hold down one of the face buttons for more then a second, it'll even pop up a little HUD showing you what all the combinations with that button will do. I think I changed like one button out of the default settings to give me a "throttle to zero" button.

Don't double tap.

If you're slow enough, just a single tap is all it takes. I don't know what happens if you're slow enough and double-tap, but if you're not slow enough, then you'll do the emergency stop and damage yourself.

That's kind of not happening depending on what you're taking out to mine with

The point is that dropping on a random spot in a random ring somewhere shouldn't auto generate pirates. If I could handle combat I'd be mining at a RES instead.

Maximizing profit is great right up till the rebuy screen, it's cheaper and much more profitable to go mining twice in a ship that can fight.

You keep missing the point. Sometimes people don't want to fight, don't want to be forced into a fight, especially not one as convoluted as forced pirate spawns in the middle of nowhere

If you leave the bubble and hit up an belt or a ring, do pirates spawn there too? This wouldn't be a practical alternative but I'm curious how far ~brabens~ vision takes that ridiculous mechanic.

What I really want to know is what scanners do pirates get to equip that tells them where miners are hiding because they're obviously far more powerful than anything we get.

No I get the point you've been repeatedly complaining about it after all, it just doesn't bother me as I fit my ships for offensive/defensive first then treat cargo/passengers/exploration/mining/mission running as a secondary less important thing. I probably make less on a mining run than you (even taking all the bounties I claim into account), but I very rarely see the re-buy screen. So it's probably a more lucrative, varied and interesting way to mine.

I just turned this game back on after a long hiatus and took my asp explorer out for a spin. I almost burned up jumping in to a binary star system. There seems to have been a lot of graphical improvements.

What's the quickest way to make money right now? I only have about 3mil. Are any of the community goals worth it?

Any community goal (that has a reasonable chance to end on a high tier) in which you end in the top 50% will probably double if not triple your net worth so yes.

Besides that, anything makes decent money these days unless you want top tier ships that are 100+ millions. I don't know what exploits are currently available if any, but passenger missions are some of the best paying and the Asp is the perfect ship for it so I would start there.

Just buy a size 5 or 6 first class passenger cabin, a fuel scoop of your favorite size, 5A FSD drive and get ready to travel. Missions range from ferrying people to the system next door to 5000 ly away, or say 3x 100 ly trips to tourist attractions.

It's not totally convoluted, the pirate is just following your wake down (after magically appearing following your descent). Maybe get someone in a combat ship to escort you. They can screw off to a res site once they deal with your followers. I think you could also wait to start mining until the pirate gets bored.

Sure the implementation is crap but it's totally conceivable for a pirate to follow your wake down. You just magically never notice him while in fsd.
