Keep in mind shugoki's instant kill thing is only if they are on critical health, they can die from a single attack at that point

Lawbringer on the other hand really looks disappointing, seems many of his moves are 4-5 action sets. There is no way you are going to get that far into his combos.

I managed to play this game twice before it utterly failed to connect to the server ever again but I liked what I saw. I just would have liked a bit more practice with it before I decided whether it was worth 60 bucks. Ubisoft has burned me before.

Could you elaborate a bit, and/or link to some good Lawbringer videos? I really want him to be good but...  I played a lot of Kensei and it sounded at first like he might be a good option for someone accustomed to that style.

To be honest, I rarely bothered much with the combos for any character. Resets and mix-ups are more important than stringing attacks together.
