Captain Foo posted:???? ?? Because it's a video player that doesn't understand what video is. It's so ham fisted and badly implemented over the years it makes Windows' video decoder architecture look positively divine in comparison. If you try and take vlc out of its comfort zone of a computer monitor and a pair of headphones, the entire thing becomes a cluster gently caress. Is that decoded then reencoded audio being sent to your amplifier or is it the original bitstream via HDMI? Who knows! Vlc won't tell you. Why is the audio coming through as white noise? Vlc stripped the audio headers off the bitstream and put the wrong ones back on. A normal media player you set the audio device, check the 'send as bitstream' option and that's it, it works. E: trap sprung E2: I don't know if I've ever gotten surround sound out of vlc. Usually I'm sick of it by the time I've tried to get it to work that I just open it in Windows media player or mpc-hc. At least those work.

Also mastering houses have the boxes with dolbys math on it so they can master it to sound good there too. nobody is checking their mix to see if 200% volume sounds crunchy enough qed

You could just turn the VLC volume up to 100% instead then use your Bose home entertainment system to really crank those mids you desire.

trip report: so swim uinstalled vlc and tried to use media player. it is indeed really good. it asked swim if swim want to change settings, being the suave computer touching goon swim is, of course swim loves loving with settings almost as much as swim loves engaging with brands and cuming in computers ok now swim definitely want microsoft to steal swim's hosed up porn searches involving overwatch and low T heavys like themself. infact steve balmer is such a swell guy they will even help use their computer as a torrent server ot distribute media player updates success! now i can load matrix 1999 directors cut.mkv w/ japanese subtitles ok swim spent 5 mintues reading the manual and googling how to load a video since there isn't any file - play. apparently swim found out u just need to drag it into the playlist panel on the right. ez pz success!!
