They're going to hang Vermette to clear any remaining hostility from the Wideman decision.

I think the only way to actually get a suspension you deserve is to attack a ref. Good job Antoine.

I watched that gif like ten times studying every other player on the ice and could not figure out what the big deal was. I didn't even look at Ducks' center because all he did was lose the face off and didn't get near anybody else. The idea that somebody might be so stupid to slash the loving ref didn't even register as a possibility until it was pointed out to me.

As much as we give refs poo poo, they do have to put up with people like that. They're on the ice too, and yeah, they get battered and bruised, usually unintentionally.

Very selfless of him. A Typical Goon posted:I'm betting Vermette gets suspended for the rest of the season. I dunno about that but he's going to get absolutely stomped. Abuse of Officials is an automatic 10 game suspension to start, and there's virtually no argument that can be made that Vermette didn't fully intend to hit the ref in retaliation for the missed faceoff. Between Vermette and Nyquist we gonna see some long-rear end suspensions handed out in the next few days.

Except it wasnt nothing he was doing.

Guess that made Vermette mad and he wanted an unpaid vacation.

They both put their sticks on the ice signalling that they were ready but Vermette pulled back for some reason. The linesman will generally not drop the puck in that situation but it's not a rule.

I think 10 games is fine. It is not like he destroyed the ref like Wideman did. It was incredibly stupid and no doubt intentional, but it strikes me as the kind of action that the minimum exists for. Unless they want to make an example of him because they cowed away from the message they wanted to send with Wideman, I don't see anything longer being justified. Also, did I mention how amazingly dumb this was?

I've dealt with back issues off and on and they are no joke. Glad Clarkson got paid his millions of dollars by a lovely GM before his body fell apart, and hopefully he can at least address the pain issue even if he can't ever be athletic again.

Assistant general manager Bill Zito has taken him to Cleveland to watch the minor-league Monsters play, and the organization has noted that Clarkson's keen eye could lead to him having a hockey operations role someday. They've gone big time with the "recent NHL players/alumni in the organization" thing in recent years. Freddy Modin, Chris Clark, Jody Shelley, Blake Geoffrion, and Jarkko Ruutu all have roles with the team and Jean-Luc Grand-Pierre has been an ambassador and occasional guest color analyst on radio broadcasts (Modin did radio Monday night, too).
