*Man I got to ask. This Cuba thing jacked up operations that much? I'm looking at your air carrier operations. BTW, the way the FAA does traffic count is complete horse poo poo. It will count a single new student pilot in a C-152 as one operation (and you guys know how much work these poor cats can be) and a air carrier as...something like 4x that? I forget. And those guys are easy peasy comparatively.

Cuba is getting progressively busier, and because of the short distance from the center boundary to pretty much all of Cuba, ZMA is having to sequence for them.

For my area specifically, the only real change is a significant number of Palm Beach departures headed to Cuba, which want very badly to kill every Miami and Lauderdale domestic departure.

Two things, A: I just realized that the Falcon 3.x splash screen is a Peregrine Falcon. That is, a bird that hits other birds as part of its hunting method.

B: Falcon replays are WAAAAAAY better with Yakety Sax in the background.

I wonder what Senior Trump's federal hiring freeze will do with the current bid. One could technically argue that ATC is part of public safety, but who even knows?

Well they haven't made ATC staffing a priority for the past 10 years so I don't see why they'd start now.

Really though, the union just got its hands on the order and we're waiting for more details to trickle down. I'm not sure how this will affect current announcement processing.

Federal agencies will need to revoke two regulations for every new regulation they request. Administration officials told The Associated Press that they are calling the new directive a “one in, two out” plan.

I'm saying we remove that pesky regulation requiring 5 miles/1000 feet for separation. It puts an undue burden on businesses!

E: the entire section on non radar as well as the stuff justifying my supervisor asking me for pirep's every 15 seconds too.

Apparently 5 pt vets are getting TOLs, so I guess the machine is still churning.
Someone on SM said "rumor has it that CTI grads will go straight to facility, instead of the academy, because they already have some training." But I almost find that laughable. Has anything like that even happened in the past.

Brothers and Sisters,

On Wednesday, the FAA advised NATCA that it will continue external hiring for certain positions, including the issuance of tentative and firm offer letters, and the posting of vacancy announcements.

The positions include:

2152 series Air Traffic Control Specialists whose primary and core duties include providing control and separation, preflight briefing and assistance, and advisory services to pilots during flight.
“Pipeline” 2152s hired directly into facilities as well as into the FAA Academy. They are also excluded from the federal civilian hiring freeze as are 08xx series Engineers (excluding 0802 and 0856).
1801 series employees whose primary and core day-to-day duties involve leading, or performing inspection, investigation, enforcement, or compliance work.
1825 series employees whose primary and core day-to-day duties involve developing, administering, or enforcing regulations and standards concerning civil aviation safety, including (1) the airworthiness of aircraft and aircraft systems, (2) the competence of pilots, mechanics, and other airmen, and (3) safety aspects of aviation facilities, equipment, and procedures.
2101 series employees whose primary and core day-to-day duties involve installing, evaluating, maintaining, modifying and certifying facilities, systems, services and equipment that support the National Airspace System (NAS).

These hiring freeze exceptions are in addition to the previous exceptions for internal transfers.

We will continue to update you as we learn more.

I should stop reading SM because it's not a very good forum. There's some good information on there, but the hiring forum is 80% rumors, 10% the same questions over and over, and 10% people saying "ugh just wait. I did."

On a different note- with the cutoff age being 31, do you have to be in OKC (or your facility for those pipelined) by your birthday? Or do you need a firm offer of employment with a start date or just a TOL?

Yeah, it feels like a giant echo chamber. It was pretty ridiculous after the FAA announced the hiring changes and Bio-Q. "There's going to a be a lawsuit on behalf of CTI students/schools! We're going to take them to court!"
Come to think of it, I've gotten more reliable information here or directly from the head of the ATC program from my school.

You also get seniority on anyone that does skip it and goes to the same facility as you. A friend I work with is ahead of a guy he went to the academy with because of this.

Just got notified today that "the current level of overtime use is unsustainable." So they're removing all of our scheduled overtime. Oh, and we've averaged something like 8600-8900 ops a day this week.

6-1-5 lookin' good. Their plan is TMU initiatives for staffing. I see it lasting one day. Maybe two if they start on a weekend.

Hire more people?

I did find out that I'm #1 on the NCEPT list for ZDV this year, so that might be a thing. We can officially release 2-3 people as a center, my area not so much. We're for sure going to be -3 on the year with one new checkout vs. 2 for sure retiring, one hardship out, and another getting picked up at TMU. Luckily for me it's not up to my area?

Got picked up by ZDV today :toot:

I don't have a release date yet so anything can happen, but the union rep sent me an email to let me know! My area is going to be so hosed. They can hold me for a year which I'm just assuming will happen due to the staffing situation in my area. So I'll probably get a 3 month release date or something stupid just to gently caress with me on trying to sell my house and get everything set up.

Grats man. I'd be extremely interested in your opinion of the transfer experience, training, etc. we don't get a lot of inbound CPC transfers.

(And the ones that we do get seem to be the refuse and pencil-whip-checkouts from other facilities...)

Thanks! I'm so not looking forward to training again. At least I'm going to another center instead of a different specialty. A lot of our CPC transfers are from towers/TRACONS and have issues transitioning. The rest are often the same as what you get. I'm kind of interested in where they'll place me since my area sees a bit of everything you get working at a center except regular military stuff.

The guy from ZJX that has been trying to get out since he got here is going to be pissed. Poor dude got picked up by our TMU but the area wouldn't release him(despite our pleas for the safety of the NAS), had a swap set up to Houston which Houston ended up shooting down, etc...
