If you're unwilling to make a declaration about someone without 100% knowing the intent behind their actions then you can literally never say anything about anyone ever. I've literally heard the exact same kind of jokes from people who short afterwards go on to, say, question how many people really died during the holocaust or say that blacks are degenerates. This isn't some out of the blue accusation without merit, this is a pattern of racism that is consistent with every racist, privileged, straight white guy that I've ever interacted with.
