Contra use some a funky kanji spelling for its name, so I'm not sure it would actually fit the clue. If they actually said "Con", though, then it's almost certain to be a Contra game.

It can go either way. Using the kanji would make it too obvious, so they'd opt to use katakana for a hint.

Also, the King text is never in kanji. It was two OO s after "Con" so, "コントラ/Con-to-ra" fits well.

The number of Os never meant anything in the past, so it's not limited to two characters.

There have been times when it's matched up, but it might have been a coincidence.

Yeah I'm pretty sure they always use just two Os. Naturally it will sometimes fit.

I don't think it did, Nintendo didn't even publish it elsewhere.

I remember hearing one of the developers say Nintendo of Japan was constantly pestering them to add or remove a finger from each of Conker's hands due to the four-finger/yakuza stigma but they didn't do it in the end.

Crash Bandicoot was given an extra finger for the Japanese releases.

The Oddworld series went the opposite direction and lopped a finger off of all the Mudokons. According to the official artbook, this is because the developers were threatened with a legal battle/fines from an unnamed pressure group if they didn't comply.

The group claimed to be representing a historical underclass of meat-packers that were often identified and prejudiced against in medieval times on account of missing digits from workplace accidents. Given that the Oddworld characters affected by this are slave-workers at a meat plant with no workplace safety, the developers saw plenty of irony in the change.

(The same group was apparently also shaking down Disney to the tune of $5 million a year to keep Mickey Mouse's hands unaltered, so it's not like they could realistically fight back or anything...)

The Pizza Pop episode was pretty great. I have a question about the famionaire segment. They keep using street fighter images for the second question. Is there any particular reason why they keep using them, since they don't appear to be questions about street fighter?

The famionaire segment is hilarious. I love when Arino does the phone a friend life line for a question involving pictures. Or cutting to the audience of one, who happens to be holding what looks like a 4 port video switch. And of course Kibe's "tension building" facial expressions for the third question.

If I recall correctly, it's because they make puns using their names that will be totally fun to translate.

Super C is easier than original flavor Contra, but it's still no cakewalk. However, there is a thirty lives code in the Famicom version and a stage select so my guess is after letting him have some initial struggles, they take mercy on him. First by letting him just stage select, and then if he's really pressing for time they'll let him use the thirty lives code. That'll make it a ten hour clear.

Easier, really? I've always thought it's way harder, although it might be because I'm so familiar with the original. Still, there's no way Arino makes it to the time limit, at least if they won't let him use the code.

That's always been my feeling and I could beat Contra on a single life. Super C doesn't have some of the real cruel moves that Contra has, particularly on later levels.
