They must think the audience of BaT has among it enough people who want a Mk4, though.

Isn't it such great advertisement for how insanely capable the R35 GTR is though?

I got to drive one around for a little while, and that is the sort of car I couldn't imagine owning without having diplomatic immunity or something. I left it in full auto and treated the inputs like on-off switches and the car Just Did It. Doing dangerous poo poo in an R35 just doesn't feel dangerous.

The lack of throttle response alone would be a dealbreaker; I don't remember that specifically when I test drove one, but I did remember it felt sluggish somehow.

If you get the chance to pick between owning a 348 vs a V8 Vantage at the same price, absolutely go for the 348. Even with the stock exhaust, it sounds better than the Aston. Not that the Aston sounded bad.

Somewhere on the internet there is a build log where a guy swaps an Audi 4.2 v8 and its trans-axle into a first gen Esprit. It is super tempting to replicate but was definitely not a straightforward project. That gearbox is what normally stays my hand when looking at them, especially now that the other cars sharing it (Maserati Ghibli and Citroen SM) have jumped so high in value. I bid on a Black '77 project 2 or so years ago but it was snapped up by a guy who polished it up and lied about all the issues it had when reselling it a few months later.

Yeah, It's still the UN1, though in fairness, it's not quite the same gearbox in later versions as the older/smaller engined cars, and is apparently rated for a hair under 300 lbs.ft.

I'd expect someone out there has worked out a conversion to something like a flipped 911 gearbox.~

Edit: I do like later Esprits. I think my soft spot for them is when they were cast as the "cool spy car" in Teen Agent.

After getting very little attention in the 348, I'm ok with not having random stranger appreciation for my ride.
My friend is taking the whole weekend to decide if he wants that salvage Boxster I won on eBay, so I can't proceed with any of my schemes til then.

One more observation -- I find myself looking at where a car is located when I spot something unusual online.
Now that Trump is president, I honestly don't feel as comfortable flying in by myself to some parts of the country to drive home a car. Like a cool car located in rural Missouri? It would never have bothered me before, but it's something on my mind now.

Do not buy an 88 or older turbo Esprit, K-Jet is a bitch to find parts for (and the transmission is worse, but that's not nearly as bad as having to deal with finding K-Jet parts). The 89+ cars used GM fuel injection.

Nothing changed with the structure of our society with the election of a new president. Missouri is more a fuckhole for its rural nature than any latent racism (well, at least no more latent racism than our country as a whole). In the end, you're dealing with an individual person selling a car. If you're relying on stereotypes, then the stereotypical Missourian that owns a car you're interested in is probably p cool.

If you base your decisions on fear, then the terrorists win. Whether you interpret terrorists as crazy brown people or our government leaders... well... that's a different topic.

Some aspects of society take election results tha reflect their beliefs to mean that they also have validation of other beliefs. It's not that people might want to do something they didn't a few weeks ago, it's that they might feel it's now acceptable to actually do it.

How much you feel that is an actual threat is another matter.

The person you're going to see may be cool, any number of people you encounter as a function of the journey might not be.

Kimbo, I understand why you might feel that way, but I do agree with SF, don't let it be something that stops you doing what you want to do.
