Is it just me, or is the mixing off on this?

Sounds fine to me. I thought the Spotify version sounded better than the youtube but I could just be crazy.

e: maybe it's the live drums?

These guys are apparently already pretty big somewhere (in the US I'm guessing) but I heard them here for the first time the other day, it's good stuff imo

Nope, sounds like more awesome Future Islands.

As usual a band I love is skipping Michigan, thinking of traveling to see them again. Haven't seen them in over three years.

They're from here (New Orleans) so I used to see them several times here at smaller venues years ago. Then one day recently I saw them appear on Conan and I was like "Woah, when did The Revivalists make it big?"

This song is fantastic, I'm hoping they'll tour and come to Vancouver!

Love the new Future Islands.

Absolutely delighted that Spotify's new music radar threw up new singles by Future Islands, Depeche Mode, Allison Crutchfield, Clap Your Hands... and Cold War Kids today.

Yeah it's a good song; I actually never listened to the YouTube link, despite posting it :shobon: It was on Spotify and I think they've since re-uploaded it, or something. That was weird.

Saw Japandroids last night. Despite some technical difficulties with monitors they put on a killer show, even though I couldn't see them most of the time and was blinded by their light show when the crowd opened up more. Also a woman collapsed in my section.

They played every song I wanted them to play except for Adrenaline Nightshift, and I yelled a whole lot.

Craig Finn was okay. I just can't get into his solo stuff.

Can I bring up WHY? for a minute?

Alopecia (which I came to late; maybe 2010) is one of those albums that I connect to a place in time, mood, blah blah blah. Never really got into Eskimo Snow that much. I acknowledge that they straddled a line of good-weird and ... I dunno, just kinda bad.

Mumps, etc. was largely panned, which I agree with because it was largely unpleasant ("Kevin's Cancer," christ). And now they've got a new LP coming out next month with singles that also leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

Any current/former WHY? fans out there that feel the same way? Did they get worse, or did we just get older?

I feel the exact same way. Alopecia is a really great album that stands the test of time for me, Eskimo Snow has a couple good songs, everything after is unlistenable!

Yeah that was a good show, especially the second half when the sound was all good. I pretty much died during The House that Heaven Built. Despite not liking their new album a ton, I would see them live every time they come through.

Yeah, I enjoyed the songs a lot more live and after the show then I did before. Arc of Bar especially.

I had pretty much the same reaction to Eskimo Snow and Mumps etc when they released. Big fan of Alopecia but those next two didn't really grab me.

I don't know what changed but in the last year Mumps has really been growing on me. I loved 'Paper Hearts' 'Sod In The Seed' and 'Jonathon's Hope' almost immediately. A lot of the other songs pop into my head as well, and now I'm into all of them except 'Kevin's Cancer' and 'Strawberries'.

I've got zero urge to listen to Eskimo Snow though. Even with the whole thing of it being songs from Alopecia sessions, they're just so samey and have all of the bite and good flow/lyrics taken out of them. Mumps etc felt like a midpoint between the two and was just the right balance for me to still like it.

Shout out to the Sod In The Seed EP from the same time as well, Shag Carpet is great and I won't hear otherwise.

New music video out from Grimes of "Venus Fly", even for Grimes it's really strange. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eTLTXDHrgtw

I think it's the most visually interesting thing she's released, but I think the music video for "Genesis" is still her most powerful and artistically distinct

Agree that it is visually amazing to look at, they did some kind of weird coloring technique to make everything pop, but it doesn't do much else. I still love the simplicity of Realti (demo) video, but it could be that it's my favorite song of hers.
