I'd like to add "2-0-1 against the Pens" to the list of things I didn't think I would say in the 2016-2017 NHL season if I may.

Also, what the cost the Jackets the go-ahead goal during regulation? Did I hear right there was a penalty coming and a Pen touched it which stopped play and washed out the goal?

Yeah, there was a hook in the crease or in the corner and a rebound came off Murray and was tapped out into the slot by the Penguin and was shot in after the whistle.

Also, you should go to Staples and get a banner made of that record.

I figured Jagr had got to be the second oldest player in the NHL all time after Howe, but somehow I forgot that Chelios and his weird golem-face was undying.
52 years, 11 days - Gordie Howe (1980)
48 years, 71 days - Chris Chelios (2010)
45 years, 1 day - Jaromir Jagr (Present)

Looks like you've got a ways to go, Jagr.

How do Caps fans feel about Sanford getting the start again over Vrana? I feel like Vrana is the better choice long term...but Trotz says that Sanford has earned the job for now. Not sure how I feel about it.

I think both guys are going to get a chance to stick in some NHL games. I don't have a problem with giving Sanford the first shot while he's hot; we already know a good bit about where Vrana is right now.

Spring Break My Heart posted:

He did, and was very good there.

He played better than everybody else on the Caps, but wasn't league-best, which was the expectation. Anyway, he specifically apologized to DC for things not working out and that's when I learned to forgive Jagr and to appreciate those haunches again.

Jagr's highs were never as great as the Greats. But he has been consistently excellent for so many years. I think it's really the volume and duration of his production that makes him a great player.

I'd definitely call Jagr a great and his highs were up there. He won the Ross 5 times and came within 2 or 3 goals of the "Richard" 4 or 5 times.

Also being able to play NHL level hockey at 45 in an era where they consider you washed up by 30 and hotshot rookies are 18.

Jagr would have been a sure thing hall of famer if he had finished his NHL career fifteen years ago. He was absolutely one of the greats.

Mario was better of course, but longevity means something too.

He revolutionized the position and was like +120 one year. He played like half the game.

I mean you can probably give it to Gretzky purely on longevity since he dominated in a similar fashion but peak matters more to me and Orr's peak was similarly dominant but it was also something nobody had done before.

Is it popular to pretend the dude that has a nearly 1000 point lead above the next leading scorer isn't the best all-time at the sport? Is that what we're all going for here?
1.921 P/GP and the next closest is Mario who played almost half as many games in his career.

Gretzky is 1 and there are legit arguments for Mario, Howe and Orr. They all dominated in such different ways that it becomes an argument over how you weight prime vs. longevity vs. positional dominance more than it is over their actual skill.

To me, Jagr is in the mix with Bobby Hull, Rocket, Harvey, and Beliveau has being a player that could easily slot into the #5. I think you could make the argument for any of them, and I wouldn't disagree. It's all preference, really.

Habs played like poo poo but

1. they actually carried the puck into the zone a lot
2. deployment was a lot better than under Therrien
3. No line blender as soon as things started going wrong
4. Price is good again

Gonna take more than one practice for Julien to get their heads out of their asses but I saw enough positives today
